So people just have to close their gates, for a game mechanic that just doesn't work for one specific scenario? Why?

Reading comprehension: not negate (for the claim) but ignore on interaction (with the localilzed resource).

If gathering items from natural resources does not imply a crime to begin with, then there is no interaction with the visitor debuff to ignore.

That being said, I still don't quite understand why people are so riled up about this. I've had almost no trouble gathering localized resources in my area. Sure, some are claimed, but there are more than enough to go around, especially for lonely hermits like me; I've taken to dropping roots in the water because I don't need all that I can find. Perhaps different places are more heavily looked after than others, but those are my observations.

It is I think a crime on V claims - no? - not that it makes much difference

Yes, but the point of the thread, unless I'm mistaken, is suggesting that it not be.

I think the point Granger was making is that it would be fine to be a crime but it should be possible to harvest resources if the doors are open, this would at least make it a little more annoying for people to build large v claims to cover multiple localised resources and be able to leave the gates open - they would have to risk walking around with a key.

It's really not all resources that are affected by this anyway, personally a better fix would be to remove entirely ice spires from the game, which don't really serve any function other than to overballance the game in the direction of the people who have claimed them and possibly rock crystals as well, and make the quality of other localised resources all 10 - then probably this problem would go away.

V claims should also be less cheap - if it's a village then there should be a village there with stuff in it, otherwise it really isn't a village. At a minimum the lawspeaker should be required to have their hf at their village, but really i think there should be other requirements for having a village - like having certain buildings and industry objects inside the village area before it is built. (might be a bit off-topic, sorry)

Villages abused to claim multiple resources could be solved by having each drain a non-trivial amount of authority each day.
