maybe it might feel like this at the beggining, but im pretty sure u will start thinking the opposite of this once u progress a little bit more in the game
(u can also decide to play the dead, legacy haven by verificating account for $15 and ram every big village in dead game to get wealth noone cares about, the LP gain is also a lot faster here, even at the beggining of the game)
maybe make a study table to have extra 49 inventory spaces for curios which will automatically be studied if u finish studying your last one, you need bone glue for this, if u dont have enough ua to kill boars and other animals of this size catch chickens or rabbits and boil their bones in cauldron.
good curios at the beggining are: dragonflies, cone cows, study-able ants (could even make better curios out of them if you can make glass already), seers bones, mirkwood offering (u need entrails for them so u need to either catch small animals or kill bigger ones)
btw eat lowest hunger possible food (berries?) which give int, per, and agi, and only raise exploration, survival and unarmed combat at the beggining of the game because they are the most needed stats at the beggining, int allows u to study more curios at once, so this one should be your priority, exploration and survival are very important too. For other stats i recommend to make alts (not necessary, u can have one char for hunting, cooking, farming, mining etc., but it will take a lot longer to raise all stats on one character) it's good to have a few alts, which only raise certain skills related to each other, because some crafting recipes cap the quality of crafted items depending on certain stats which determine it.
because u have a group of friends you could just make one alt per person and everyone could pick the kind of job they want to do on their alt and then decide which stat they need to raise to do it

just move to another place, its not like the world isnt big enough for this, and if u already did it and it happened again then i guess its just your bad luck
this tip should also help:

WarlordToby wrote:We have failed to kill bats and ants
u can easily outrun ants, even at 2nd speed if u want to save stamina to make energy drain minimal. With like 5 ua and 10 agi they can be easily killed.
hit the ant, then move away and spam restorations until your opening is between 5-8 (some clients display how high your opening is with number)
then repeat until its dead, instantly aggro another ant and kill it using the same way as fast as possible, because new ants will spawn and raid the anthill when u killed them all (rarely there are super fast ants which will catch u at 3rd speed so in this case run to the second side of a nearby, long enough cliff by climbing it, to avoid KO)
u can also easily kill bat with the same way by using cave entrance (moving outside and inside of the cave after hitting one time), even if u cant click at cave entrance fast enough because of screen-loading time u can use the icon on the minimap to move in and out, maybe get like 10 ua, or even 15-20 to make it easier and comfortable if u still have a problem
if u want to kill a boar find a cliff which is long enough (because if it isn't he will simply run around to get to you, forcing u to regularly jump to the second side and making the hunt more difficult and tedious) and a boar next to it (you are usually a little bit faster than boar at 3rd running speed, and can drink as u run incase u are running out of stamina) if the cliff is also round enough u can use stick stockpiles to block his way when he is going to run away, its not necessary but makes hunting easier because u wont have to chase him. 20 ua should be enough, but if u want it to be more comfortable get maybe 30 or 40, u can kill other animals weaker than boar this way, but most of them is faster than u so in this case always find a cliff that is at the same time long enough and round enough to block its way with stockpiles. if it is round enough but not long enough they will very likely just break stockpiles and get to you.

They can't teleport with their roads if you put or built something between their milestones/roadsigns, so they actually had a good reason to do this.
I hope I helped you.
