There are large regions that spawn only a single ore type. It extends multiple layers. You have surface ore (1-3) mid depth ore (2-5 it seems?) and then deeper which I haven't gone. If you get unlucky, you will get vast, and I mean *vast*, patches of the same ore.

On my L1-3 I prospected 14 nodes of chalco, 1 tin node, 3 heavy earth nodes in the caves around my base. This type of clumping continues downwards. Vigi has found 40ish galena nodes so far. I'm living in a smallish village with friends, I don't have the mining oomf/logistics to really go further afield than 10 minimaps in all directions below L1. Making all of my tools from chalco with no tin hurt my soul.

i really like how people want me to build mining outposts all over the world like that's fun content especially with traveling and roads being a cancer.

let me have 3-4 villages too. maybe i can station alt miners there too.

more or less, i have found 40-and-counting galena nodes at this time and only a few bloodstone all on the same (3rd) layer. finding decent shit on my l5 is a myth right now, as is the case with my l4 having anything but malachite. my l2 is tin heaven and my l1 is chalco paradise.

and then when i find an oddball ore i didnt expect to find in my layer its gonna be like 20 tiles like the bloodstone i had last night and its gonna give me 3 ore piles tops which will turn in to a hand full only of bars being "worthy" of being an "upgrade," that is, if it's even above q50.

Use Rustroot

You chose a really bad location. I don't think the game should change to accommodate people who make poor choices.

Previous world black ore nodes were so plentyfull you didn't have to mine any other iron ore nodes. Having them hidden away deeper from all the noodle armed people is nice.

Why would you do that though? Just place a claim and mineholes. You can teleport a lot of stacks back with one trip.
You are intentionally making it seem harder than it is just to get your way.

Last night I mined enough ore to make 400 iron bars and the night before that I mined enough for 500 iron bars.

I would like to see the world go on longer before mining gets made easier once more. I don't think they can really change where the ore nodes are anyway without reset. You guys who want a change for it will keep suffering if you don't learn new ways.
