Instead of TW cost, make it damages the ship based on distance traveled. Of course, this would make "The ship wouldn't survive the voyage" - preventative error message a requirement to be implemented.

Also scales of hitpoints instead of percentage to further make that "ship quality increases HP pool" -idea work.

Would this ever, in a million years of game-play, a single time make things more fun than just no cost?

Yes, indirectly, by giving an incentive to upgrade ship quality. I remember Etrian Odyssey 3 had a (puzzle-ish) sailing minigame where you try to explore the sea, but were greatly limited in the distance you could travel. It was exciting every time to find a food upgrade, as it would extend the distance I could travel per voyage. Currently we have Dugout -> Rowboat -> Snekkja -> Knarr and it ends there, with the last step often not even being worth the upgrade. Giving value to upgrading quality (if the speed bonus is to be ditched) would keep upgrading interesting. It could also serve to differentiate Snekkjas and Knarrs further, with Snekkjas being better for short voyages (higher teleport damage?) and Knarrs more suitable for long voyages.

how it plays out back here in reality:
1) Spend 2 hours going somewhere
2) Don't have the tarsticks to go back
3) Hearth home
4) Build a whole ass new knarr to retrieve your old one
5) Spend 2 hours going back to it
6) Make a beacon to spawn an alt and port it
7) Time wasted over tiny mistake while trying to have fun: several hours of bullshit
8) same scenario, but somebody stole the tarsticks out of your knarr while you left it alone for 2 seconds

People were straight up not having a good time when having maxed TW just stopping you from docking, which is a /slightly/ less bad version of the same thing. It's rly sad when sincere people suggest this stuff. At least audiosmurf is pranking, but you guys have no excuse. Dumb shit like this actually gets put in the game sometimes, and doesn't get reverted for months/years. You're ruining it for everybody.

I'm completely sincere in thinking some of your self-serving ideas are dogshit, as I always am.

edit: also I genuinely think swapping TW for damage on ships is a cute idea and I like it more because you don't like it

Nah, I prefer the mineholes stay as they are. If mineholes are free then the natural entrances are redundant and have no value. I don't want to see them spammed everywhere.

Maybe reduce surface->L1 minehole's hard leather requirement to 1-5 hard leather, down from 10?

The premise is wrong. Wax goes from being the most valuable material in a minehole early, to being the least valuable/nearly worthless as soon as you get significant farms. There would not be significantly more mineholes in the world.

Massive agree on boat rotation (boatation?). It might be one thing if devs had a full sail system using wasd keys like some of those pirate games, but they don't and the fix is confusing and infuriating.

Since "Siege Boost" is designed to represent how well-established a claim is, maybe change the name to something more generic and give it additional effects, i.e. Lv.1 - Can destroy Wellsprings on claim, Lv.5 - Can destroy Cave entrances on claim?
