Sorry I may not have been clear about what I was referring to. I don't mean jumping up and down cliff edges although that is something to consider with regard to elevation as well, but rather the actual running speed when running up or down a hill/slope that is fairly steep. This does indeed slow down your character when going up or increase their speed when going down.

Yeah the fluctuating walkspeed is already kind of jarring, even when you can see it coming. I'd go mental playing with flat terrain

I don't notice any slowdown or speed up.
As I mentioned, at least for me, its as if its just a flat ordinary plain, no different than anywhere else.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

It's one of many things where PvP forces one to give up immersion and pleasure from the game for the sake of survival

I can assure you it's there .... slow uphill and fast down, probably just it doesn't work on your custom clients.

It's very visible. And also you can notice that from the noise of steps.

Cba to read anything in this entire thread, I just want to say that I forgot to turn on "flat world" one fight and it felt like I got cancer, did treatment for 10 years, and still died.

That's how retarded mountains are. Thank you.

this 1 is loftar not jorb and he has commented on it a bunch of times, the answer is usually just some weird turbo nerd mumbo jumbo ie not wanting to use other peoples code

I was wondering that too. I mean how is it that I'm one of the few people that actually knew about this mechanic and there are so many who did not? It suggests to me that there is a possibility the uphill/downhill speed variances are entirely client side and it may be that the flat world is removing this completely. That would be a pretty large oversight. Or these people just don't go on mountains very often idk.

i said jorb cause he is usually the dev more in touch with the user base. loftar or jorb, the default client needs serious qol improvement and the dev logic not to fix it is hilariously flawed.

If it was client-side in some way, you'd be able to make a custom client that makes it perpetually downhill whichever direction you're travelling or some shit and have a perma-speedboost over anyone else.
