Not criticizing the devs for speeding up W16.1. It was an experiment, and now we know it's probably not worth implementing in W17.
that's not a problem
it's like playing minecraft. this game has cycles. once a year it wipes and people play it until they taper off. this is not real life or a life alternative or a lifestyle. shit would be weird if people were playing an old small cult classic game for 12 month stretches.

I think there is a strong argument that the start needs to be slowed down, because it's so content rich and there's so much to do. I understand that it's quite possible to hit a 1-3 day gap where you're waiting for the pyre to finish and crops to grow, but only the no-lifers and faction competitive players hit it, and even then you've got plenty to do.
stretching out the early mid game is better than bogging everyone down in the primitive era. it's very slow and not being able to see or do anything isn't super epic, you're just farming infinite low quality stuff you can't use once your metals roll out. the q7 hedgehog era is ass, they've stretched it out perfectly as-is. it lasts about a week.
Slowing down the primitive age is where its at though. and it also gives them more opportunities to add things in those ages. Plus I actually think its way my satisfying unlocking new tech when timegates are longer. and also gives normally people time to get their str without fucking up their other stats, or at least have poppies the time it the first minehole needs digging out.

Also I actually think.. having like a 16 hour claim set dry for example actually really helps new players find a place that isn't gonna get spotted easily by vandals. There is soooo many river bases raided rn for example and I think if their claim pole were based constantly they might actually use a few brain cells to think about placing it in better locations which then gives them a better chance to get walls up without them being bashed.
4 hour claim drying might said like a good thing on paper for new players and the game in general but many many many people assume a dry claim is a safe one and time rolls around and vandals come and steal their stuff simply because they are in a stupid location, it still takes them 4-5 days for the majority of players to get walls dried, even longer in some cases. They are much better off their claim pole getting bashed, maybe even multiple times and realising the area they planned to settle is not "safe" from being spotted by griefers, not that there is anywhere that is truly safe but there is certainly places that no one checks for 16 hours.
