Steel fuel cycle is too short

Bump. Please extend the fuel cycle by at least 3-4 more hours. Seriously Jorb, I refilled my crucibles at 12am & came on to find them run out. Some people cant access steel because its such an ass right now. We also have real life to attend to and cant always check them in time. Please for all the midnight blue cheese buff the fuel timer.

I could perhaps be tempted to agree with this, but then the question materializes: What makes steel a challenge? I could agree that timing isn't the most fun, but what works better?

infrastructure? length of time? idk

to further clarify, the "challenge" to steel should be in making it a good quality, it shouldn't be a "challenge" to make some low quality steel for a gate or whatever. it should be an investment of resources, e.g. the crucibles themselves, the fuel, and everything that goes into wrought iron production. high quality steel requires higher investment into infrastructure because of all the points in the production chain. i'd be fine with steel taking twice as long and using twice as much fuel if it only had to be fueled every 24 hours.

The thing is once you have the infrastructure for hq steel, making it wouldn't be a challenge anymore then

the challenge would be providing fuel of sufficient quality.

Get's my vote, steel has always been a total nightmare for me to the point where this world I have only made one batch, I don't even care that my hermitage is not secure, lol, though in fairness that is also because I have less interest in this world, but, if steel wasn't such a pain to produce due to the timers I would have continued with it.

I agree with Sabi in that producing low q steel should not be as much of a challenge as the production of high q steel and I'd also be fine if it had to take twice as long and double the fuel if I didn't have to log on in the middle of the night or the early hrs of the morning to make sure I'm not back to square one!

I think timers in general should always err on the longer hrs rather than the shorter, it makes haven life extremely difficult if you have any kind of rl commitments.

How about:

"Participate in a village with multiple people tending the Steel Crucibles, and consider this an appropriate barrier to entry into Steel tech."
jorb: I don't want *your* money. You are rude and boring. Go away.
Sevenless: We already know real life has some pretty shitty game mechanics, it's why we're here instead.
Avu: The end is near it has finally come to pass: I agree with Lunarius...
Shubla: There are also other reasons to play this game than to maximize your stat gain.

That would maybe be fine if steel wasn't required for brick walls

sure, maybe. timer based failures are a dumb mechanic though.
