I've said it before probably a few times but I honestly believe tokens have a greatly negative impact on in-game trading. At this point in the game when player count starts to dwindle you don't have many new players any more bringing in things like blueberries, chives, foraged curios, pearls, etc. and instead many players will opt for the easier route to obtain whatever currency or item they are looking for and that would be tokens. The market system in this game relies on players trading more than just tokens with each other.
This is not so noticeable in the early stages but as the world progresses it only becomes worse until trade is just as dead as the playerbase.
