There are two Salem lessons to be learned:
1. Unlimited teleportation of items, even both ways (in case of accessing the char inventory via hearthfire(Salem:leanto)
2. Driving off returning players by combined effect of losing clothing, cold mechanics, seasons and inability to logoff while having no HF (leanto).

players should lookup to new horizons, something like the Objects update thing allowing for bridges, walkable walls, boats, towers, this has a higher serendipity potential for new possibilities than these tired attempts

Why not changing how hearth fires work. Characters can not log out too far from their hearth fire. if a character moves their hearthfire they can not hearth for a certain amount of time. If they log out and try to log back in and find that they can not spawn where they log off they don't get to spawn at hearthfire but instead randomly in the wilderness.

Could even go even further and only allow characters to log out when they're naked (I would argue to allow a character to hold a keyring though while they log off).

What if there was a 'Witch Credo' that gave you the ability to open somebodies alt vault with sinister magic. At their hearthfire, you could use magic to look into a characters inventory. If you like what you see, you can perform a ritual to open their inventory which takes X hours.

Looking into somebodies inventory takes 100 xp, and opening it takes 10 000 xp. You can't take equipped items or stuff in belts. You can put keys in belts. Because it requires a credo, you don't have to worry about it early game, and late game the time+xp requirement should deter hurting noobs.

Having a magic perfect storage makes me sad. Why would I spend time and effort making a shittier storage that needs STEEL, when I can make one for Clay x10, Stone x10, Board x10, Block of Wood x20. I really want to use the lock system, and have strong boxes, but it is really just a huge waste of time.

That will suck for those who have a life and sometimes have to logoff quickly.

Overall this is a good direction. The balancing part seems tricky. If the cost is too low, there will still be a hunt for noobs. If the cost is high enough, One can always have one alt per pearl, making the cost prohibitive vs gains.
Perhaps some proportional system like <base cost> + <variable cost>*<n items> could work. Though I can still imagine having a 2 directional teleport pipe powered by realm coffer.

+1 to this idea. Items should always be in the world imo.

If its not too difficult to implement, it could be tried at least.
If it does not work out, then it can be reverted.

I think the main concern is that people might steal noobs stone axes from their hearth fires in the wilderness or something.
I don't think that is an issue. People will kill everyone they see in early game after they get rage anyways. And steal all the things from unwalled places.
Noobs without walls usually do not have any valuable equipment either, so losing them would not be a big deal.

I think those are minor concerns if the change results in reduced alt vaulting.

One decent-sounding compromise would be that inventory can be looted, but not equipment. This would include belts containing keyrings. This way people wouldn't find themselves completely naked and without tools (assuming they had decent-sized belt.)
