I think it's why all baked goods take take the same amount of fuel (vs legacy where it could be from 1 to 4 sticks worth).

On the other hand I like the firepit mechanic (heat up, then cook), which could be fun with ovens - given that they give visual feedback for the actual baking.
Color (and density) of smoke could be used for that, so one would see when the goods are done without having to peek inside. Different timer durations wouldn't be an issue then, given the time between well done and ash being long enough.

Also firing while baking could mess up the baking goods (as of the black smoke from the wood), but that wouldn't be bad should (at the same time of this being introduced) the ovens get a smoking mechanic (for sausages, ham, pulled meat, smoked fish and whatnot).

I agree with all of this, and at that point the flue and damper could take on other roles (reducing the heat up time, for instance).

we are putting a little bit too much thought in to cooking now at this stage of the topic. if cooking wants to become a more complex and in depth system, then we might be in for a lot. we should just stick to simple ideas like the first iteration of this idea, or we should just get an even larger oven.

Have to agree. I'm starting to recall some of the nightmare crafting that was A Tale in the Desert, things like making charcoal that were so much an irritating chore because the "puzzle" wasn't difficult. You just made a bot to run a half dozen (or whatever you could fit together and run at once) kilns.

I hope they make it more complex, it's only one of the central points of character development.

have one oven able to do the job of for ovens would be a lot better so I definitely like this idea it would be nice if you would be able to build ovens inside buildings to
I would like to turn a great hall into a giant dining hall and massive kitchen

Oven centipede so we have one window for all ovens if faced in each other back. :ugeek:

But for real, after upgrading from ovens to cheese, I feel like... free person. Cooking for 2-4 people or just to gain more stats for yourself is such long task if You use 8*(X+1) ovens.

Maybe we should make a mini-game out of it like some of these cooking games out there.

I won't lie, as much as I love the idea of mini-games for crafting, it doesn't really fit the HnH aesthetic. There are other ways of making cooking an involved process, including making recipes a bit more free-form and less 'static'. This is a trend we've been seeing anyway.
