It's both about mindset and goals. If You have statcap, people who reach it, can either engage in PvP or... or what? After reaching every possible technology advance, recipe, max stat, every item, there's no more motivation to stay beside roleplay* and PvP**.
So, like A LOT of people consider game done if they achieve everything provided by the devs and have deep in their ahole if there's any community engagment.
Not having statcap, one could say it's just "rising number game" but since the games exist, LEADERBOARDS are a thing and getting higher quality in stuff is like climbing that leaderboard ladder, the higher You are, the better You feel about yourself, your achievements or whatever You call it. Whatever. Making statcap always takes away some goals or stop goals at certain point.

So I will never say a yes to statcap. I can agree with catching up mechanics but as it stands, for most people I've talked with deeply enough, "ohh titans have such high stats...." was very often, just a fucking excuse. Nothing more.

* for roleplay, You don't have to worry about stats much, which renders statcap unnecessary.
**seems a lot of haven players don't wanna engage PvP and stats is only excuse, so statcap again, doesn't matter, beside devs not liking it either.


+1 Plus, ANY way of making people who basically do not play equal to people who play is a non-sense. (2 hours a week in a grindfest game is not worth considered playing.)

Excuses and reasons for not actually playing may vary from individual to individual, but if you do not play, you will not be one of the best in this game. It's natural, it's fair, it's a good thing.

Would 1K in something still be normal? 5K? 10K? Where to draw the line? Being able to solo a troll?
This seems to be the main question where the viewpoints differ wildly.

A nice display of the dishonesty that is employed by the ones who are against limits on how big the numbers can get, as no one asks for characters played 2h/week being equal to characters played 16/day.

I think "You shouldn't be able to solo a troll/mammoth/etc" is a great place to draw the line. Titan beasts need to be something it takes a team to destroy.

But even that seems like an arbitrary stat block since there are other factors involved (including skill).

FACETANKING a troll should be outright impossible at any degree of strength.

i think they should keep the unbound stat cap but they should use the inherit mechanic more by making it so ur character ages and dies eventually that way u cant stat cap everything cuz of time limitations

You both forget that Trolls vary in strenght between all 5 undergrounds level as it is now and now, You have 6 different places to draw a line! Cool!

Beside, Mammoths getting cheesed is a thing so doesn't matter if You allow face tank it or not.

i think instead of being unable to solo a torll or mammoth that they should just make it so only end game players can solo them and then add newer and stronger beasts that require multiple end game players to defeat

The concept of an End Game is toxic and has no place in wilderness survival game design.

I'm okay with infinite stat progression as long as there are diminishing returns to having 10k strength, etc.

these seem like rather stupid claims 2 make how is it toxic and y does it have no place in survival game design
