My point is that knarrs are fine, its stupid that you can land a hit from a knarr, but it just works.
It doesnt have to be real life simulator, not that much.

I am not saying that HnH should be RL-simulator.
But I am saying that the fact that bunch of people from knarr can just hit the same target at same time is dumb.

So let me get this straight...

People would rather play with a broken mechanic and risk being the dead guy than fixing that mechanic?

Then again, I've a suspicion that those who don't want to see it fixed are the ones abusing it. A real fix takes time. And just because you can't fight a target doesn't mean there isn't means to remove an obnoxious ship.

Knarrs need nerfed. This topic is a request for ideas on how to sensibly fix it. You can either run around with your head in the sand and say "it's fine" and then live with whatever "terrible" idea that comes up, or you can provide productive input into the issue.

Melee attacks from large vessels to any other vessel is extremely difficult. Ranged combat is the general inter-vessel combat througout history. for there to be melee combat on water the attackers had to invade the other vessel. using a large vessel to run over a small vessel or swimmer was not difficult(see Keelhaul).

I agree that a player should not be able to melee another player from a knarr. however, this would be a good use for marksmanship. also, running over a player in a smaller boat in a knarr could be a thing.

I know this reply will get shitposted upon, but history supports the argument.

I wanna say that for combat on knarrs to change, we are going to be waiting on Jorbtar to come up with object controlled objects. Similar to what we see with docks currently, we cannot walk on them at all, knarrs you sit into and become a giant hitbox.

I'd like to think once this is implemented youll see us grappling knarrs and duking it out on the ships in close quarters combat(obviously ranged players could be peppering those coming in). Atleast this is my perception. So, yes, nerf knarrs, but only once we have a proper system for it in place.

To additionally add to this, it could open up variation of ship types, as some ships could be built for holding a lot of players or objects but are slower, and have those smaller faster ships for catching and holding down ships briefly to have others come. honestly the ideas are limitless, those are just two.

Its one of the tools we have to do certain things, being the victim or not it doesnt matter, its like asking for animals to break boulders to not cheese them, or the same case for bush, or pali, etc.
Sometimes its funny to have X ridiculous mechanics.

But is it broken? And if it is - what exactly is broken?

Yes, it is silly from RL point of view. But there are tons of things in the game which are even more silly. Carrying whole boats with a couple of dead animals inside. Running with wheelbarrow above your head instead of pushing it. Eating tons of food (with exaggerated animation now) on a regular basis. "Hunting" trips which look like an apocalypse horseman's work (I pick these 20 animals to carry in my wagon and leave the rest rotting around). Etc etc etc. It is all silly. And at least for me it is all part of the unique appeal of this game. Melee from boats is silly but is integral part of the game. Removing it will leave a hole which would require something to fill it. Marksmanship? Maybe but I am not so sure.

As for the risk of being the dead guy. I am pretty realistic and understand that potentially if anything I am the chased guy on the OP screen. But let's be really honest. Would "fixing" "broken" mechanic (in any reasonable way, not just "you can't kill people period") change the fate of the chased merchant alt on the OP screen?

Hur dur bring back original naval combat with ramming boatss and stuff, you also need the entire server to play and like 90% of them are just rowing.
