Fair.

jorb wrote:There are literally millions of things that are easy enough to test by themselves. The point being that it's not a super meaningful use of our time to attack that vast set by individual trial.

Fair.

jorb wrote:What would that even entail? Providing a test server where everyone has god powers and can, thus, crash the server willy-nilly?

There is a test server, it's called the server, and we the players are all in part your unpaid (some of us paying) alpha testers. It's an understandable position that you cannot test for every edge case for every update. It's understandable that some bugs slip through (even AAA publishers nowadays have shit-tier bug screening).

It is however very diffuclt to encourage the players (your alpha testers) to 'test' your newly added mechanics in (un-)intended ways when the possibility of losing hundreds of our hours of 'work' is a very real possibility. When the outcome of these situations is players (your patrons and testers) having no recourse for recovering their time, there is no incentive for the players (your patrons and testers) to report their findings, either as bug reports or otherwise.

The harm for you reviving characters is - as far as I can tell - very little. perhaps some players will whine. They already do. Perhaps some players will claim you have bias towards one group or the other. They already do. Perhaps players will quit, claiming you didnt bring back their character for 'legitmate' bug-related deaths. They already do.

At the end of the day, you're the Judge, Jury, and Executioner. You can decide on a case by case basis whether or not a claim is legitmate. It's not your job to make claims, just to hear them. If a bug is severe enough to cause permanent loss (such as OP's case), I believe it would be the onus of the player (tester) to prove his case. If we the players can lead you to patching a bug which you may have overlooked (edge case or otherwise), consideration should be made for the player's damages.

When this game was much younger, a clear cut policy of "no revives" was understandable. Server-crash related deaths were a lot more common, The player base was smaller, there was no monetezation. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to reevaluate your stance on the subject.

given the screenshot in OP the char got dropped and not disappeared ... ready to to take (steal) stuff ... so i wouldn't ask what "funny" things they did to make it just disapear ... and the OP doesn't give any clues ...

while i truly feel for the loss of those boots ...

and btw. nobody is forced to pay to play ... so i guess
customer support
can't be forced too ,,,

Good point, good post, except one thing:

...by case by case by case by case...
Or, in other words,
jorb wrote:Too much time. Too arbitrary. Too much he-said-she-said. Too much pointless logging.

Yeah the devs are part-time Judge, Jury and the guy with a huge ax. Part-time. If we push them to take it as a full-time job, we won't have any devs.

"Absolutely no revives" policy in this case has many obvious flaws (stated above), but still is lesser of the two evils.
Wouldn't hurt to be a little more sympathetic though, guys. "Har har you ded because bug, this is alpha we owe you shit go eff yourself you sprucecap" shouldn't be the... general impression of developers reaction on their customers' misfortune.

I picked up my body while in a knarr, but realized I couldn't travel home with it like that. So I right clicked to set it down, and it vanished. The spot I selected happened to be where shallow water changes to deep, which is really the only odd thing about what I did to the body. Just wish I had looted it before trying to take it home. This was all reported to jorb in a pm.

I had the corpse of a calf sitting below the ground in a similar area, invisible, unclickable. But it was there, the client rendered a hitbox for it and it blocked my movement, so I resorted to a script that was able to lift it.

Maybe check the location again with hitbox rendering enabled, the corpse (or, by now, likely the skeleton) might still be there.

I checked hitboxes and boated around the area with the knarr when it initially vanished. If the body had been there it would of obstructed the knarrs path. Thanks tho.
