Right but as far as I know that has hardly ever been the case in the majority of fights/skirmishes/assaults, with or without tokens. Casual players don't often care about buying the best of the best stuff anyways, they can go around and get things that are close enough without the need for that. Some Russian dude gave me q100+ hammer and anvil early on which I realize is not all that comparable to what faction groups had or have now but to get that for free was a very nice boon.
In HnH the PvP related stuff is currently extremely dependant on how much time you spend on the game which means that a ton of people who have less time than others are at a disadvantage which has to be balanced in some way. One of the ways to solve this problem is to introduce other things from IRL that people could offer for it other than time , the easiest and most common way is ofc introducing the money into the game (preferably to make it limited how much people can spend for game to stay in balance).
The other ways are : limit how much time people can play , change how game works. First option people don't like, because who would like to play less the game they like or be stressed about how much time you have left to play? (and will just encourage people to make even more alts) Second option is easier said than done.
I don't really understand what your point is. Where are the players that have put in enough money to be able to compete with a large faction group? Is that even possible, if for example you are a player or group that had to buy from them in the first place, to catch up? No faction group is selling their top stuff for tokens, they are selling their old upgrades and such and retaining their advantage. Does that allow for catching up much more than trading without tokens would? I don't think so personally.
It seems to me that the argument being made that this is important income for the devs comes from a place of selfishness and greed, such players aren't at all concerned about the devs or their income because they aren't buying tokens themselves at all. They are only trying to make money off them through RMT.
