I'm aware that changing this would help new players and hermits as well, but let's be honest, it won't help them catch up to people with years of experience and a group to back them up. Also it probably couldn't be more hilarious if anyone else from this forum would be trying to help more people get into the game than you. Admit it, you just want more people you can stomp before they can learn the game, if you really cared about more people picking up this game and stay as well, you wouldn't be notorious for killing noobs. 10 out of 10 for comedy though, thank you for this thread.

I started playing in world 10 and within my first week of playing I messaged Trollex without knowing him at all to ask him how to raise a PVP character. I was able to get stats that were competitive at the faction level as a hermit within a month or two. I think I would've quit before I learned to actually play the game if stats were as complicated then as they are now. It would take me over an hour to explain to a new player how to eat now.

Fine, you are actually making a valid point. I like the fact that you need to experiment let it be cooking or alchemy, but it definitely makes things harder for new and solo players.

I don't think static variable ingredient effects alone would change that. Casual players will still need to absorb tribal knowledge and use external tools either way. If they can't figure it out now, they never will. I think you underestimate just how ignorant the average casual player is. They're too busy eating q10 sorb apples and unspiced, roasted meat to care about the best mushroom for an autumn steak.

It depends, really, the spectrum of players is wide. It's always good to push for good changes so more and more people know what to do. Of course, if some are too stubborn that's on them. Good example of a great change was UA/MC equalization, which made combat much more fair for people that do worse statwise. We need more stuff like that. Personally I'd love to see more mediocre players, and even if I still manage to kill them I admire their effort more than of an eternal sprucecaps.

If the hunger system didn't punish sub-par foods so badly, this recipe system wouldn't be so detrimental to the progression of players not scouring the external recipe sheets. Changes like this would help so much.

The current hunger system is beyond fucked right now anyway with tryhards drinking hunger reset potions, it has to get changed.

Exactly, no matter what changes are made to simplify things for the average player there will always be other methods by which an advantage can be gained and they are usually far greater advantages than what gets complained about on the forum. The botting and custom client features are so much that most of you don’t even play the game yourself any more except to attack other players.

While I dislike how Salem made many foods generic and repetitive (each food category had its own variants of foods with almost identical stats and cooldowns) I do like they cleared the mess with variable ingredients. Instead of variable ingredients giving arbitrary bonuses based on jorb's immagination they were all brought to a predictable rule. For example each type of flour gave small bonus (10-20%) to a specific FEP, and that worked the same way for all foods using variable flour. It was clear to predict, you didn't require shitton of spreadsheets. If you wanted to increase a specific stat then you knew which type of ingredient would be best to use.

And smoking meats is something I absolutely despise - having to test each meat and sausage with each type of 1235 wood types to see which one is actually worth using
