I've read Steam worlds will last about six months each, "regular" worlds will now last about two years each. That's fine with me, I usually don't feel I'm making progress til six-eight months in (certainly not one of those players sailing around in a snekka and killing bears in the first two weeks, lol). I think the short worlds will attract the PvP crowd - get stats up quickly, make armor, fight, get bored, repeat in next world - while the folks who enjoy the rpg side of the game will gravitate to the longer worlds - more leisurely play, get to know neighbors, explore.

Player retention in this world seems abysmal, only two people on my kin list still active, most only played about a month (including an experienced player I've known in three worlds). And one whose name is still there but clicking it displays no image nor any "Last seen" data.

No clue what you are referring to if you do not quote the post correctly. I think you may have misquoted, the guy comparing street fighter combos to press 1 for cleave was Sephiroth or w/e his name is.

And of course if all you are doing is logging in to kill spruce caps obviously to you it is going to seem like it does not have much in common with a game like dwarf fortress.

Would I be correct in assuming you asked the devs where their inspirations for combat came from before making that post? You are so confident about your assertions so you must have.

I keep thinking of making my own game that mimics the feel of this game for that very reason. Give players the option to avoid being griefed by sociopaths.
