Just a little tip: When you run a game for years that's free to play and can run on really outdated computers, you're going to accumulate a community with a lot of players who simply can't afford or run anything else. We're a nation of cyberhobos is what I'm saying here.

Here's my thoughts on the matter.

I'm not totally broke, and I can spend money on games. If this game were a one-time purchase of <£20, for example on steam early access, I would happily buy it. But this form of monetization is just ridiculous. Buying hours to rent the game? This is pretty much one of those mobile game scams. This is not a top-tier mmo deserving of a monthly subscription fee. This is a crappy (but charming) alpha of a game, whose best hope would be an early access scheme. You spent so much time working on hafen with a 2 man team, but you've driven the hype machine into the ground with this rubbish.

Jorb, Loftar, I like you guys. I've spent probably thousands of hours in your games, posting on your forums, talking to friends about them, even making new friends in them. You make interesting games that people can enjoy, and I'm all for you guys making money on them. I still think this is a jorbtroll, but if it isn't then I think you're going in the wrong direction.

Requiring a regular commitment to paying for a persistent product is hard to convince people on even for large games with fully paid staff and giant server farms. You guys are on your own, with limited resources and somewhat slow development cycles. If you charge people a monthly fee to play then they are going to expect you to match that persistent dedication with some of your own. Are you going to be able to go at it full time and really push the game?

I personally would much rather see you charge a small fee for entry now. Call it an early access price, make it $15-20. A little high for some, but as it is one time then many will do it anyways. Even with only a few hundred players that should give you guys some starting money to invest back into it and get it to a place where it can really justify a monthly payment model. I'm not sure $10 is in the cards to start with, but you'd be making something.

Consumer confidence is already hard to build in online games, and most of them don't have permadeath, frequent wipes, and a world which gives other people free reign to take their time, money, and enjoyment away for kicks. You guys deserve to make money, but you can't just add the same cookie cutter monetization that other vastly different games use on without warning and expect it to go over well.

Good luck with the game. I hope you figure out a way to make it work. You guys have many good ideas and I'd love to see them get more exposure in the long run. I had planned to come back for this, and I still may down the road, but for now I can't justify another subscription when I'm paying for FF14 and have limited time. The game is just too deep and too likely to suck me in.

And what jorb and loftar are doing right now is getting rid of them. Of course they're gonna be mad, they've been squatting in the same abandoned building for years and they're getting kicked out. But it's only natural. You guys should be thankful jorb and loftar kept hosting the server and repairing the hard drives that kept crashing for so many years, for free.

So you guys are trying to make Haven into a facebook game tier whale hunt with a community that has maybe 500 players online at a time.

Good luck with that.
