Lol, so you dont lock the door of your house at night? Try going for a midnight stroll where i live and see if you come back in one piece, or back at all. Everything you described can happen in real life, except in real life we have laws and authorities where in this game we have shitty gameplay mechanics that can lead to power abuse.

I am not gonna defend anybody who spends money on whats essentially pay to win + bragging status, those deserve to be hat=die, specially because im pretty sure the developers encourage this behavior since it moves the hat market it seems. People who support this game should learn to demand from the devs the same way they are demanded from power abusers.

Most negative interactions in this game are hardly ever seem as pvping, its just borderline griefing. Hate the game, not the player? why not both? Just because you are excused to act like a shithead doesnt mean you arent one.

This is not real life. This is a voluntary sandbox, oriented towards PvP and faction based conflict.

You can chant your robber mantra all day.

Saying this game is oriented towards PvP is rich considering i played for the last two weeks and my only PvP interaction so far was 5 seconds of someone trying to snipe me on my spawn point. The world i played before for months and never even had any sort of interaction with another player, so spare me of your crap.

Fucking lol. You can't act like this is the first you're hearing of this, or that you haven't given it any thought.

Is it that coming right out and saying "I would rather cater to half a dozen no-lifers and a thousand bot accounts than offer even the slightest compromise to people that pay to support the game's development" doesn't look great when written out plainly?

This is why I have never and will never buy any standalone cosmetic for this game. Yeah, I wouldn't give it up in a "hat or die" situation, but I wouldn't BE in that situation if people knew they weren't gonna get better than a q30 stone axe out of me. You've allowed the incentive to persist, why the fuck would anyone support that?

shubla wrote:better suggestion: ban problematic people

this problem is not widespread there are literally handful of people doing it because no consequences because devs are stupid

This!
The people that play this game for pvp is already only a handful of people.
Among those handful of people there are a couple of people who do it.
In any other mmorpg extortion like this happens but they also get reported and banned very quickly.
If you ban a couple of offenders it will send a strong message and stop the next generation of pvpers being immoral beasts.

Sevenless wrote:Haven is the only place where I've ever heard of that has regular extortion of paid cosmetic items from vulnerable players to power players.
So we have a combination of paid (and even more, created only by payment) items and a possibility to pass them to other players in-game. As it happens usually, any kind of an item that can be separately bought for advantage raises a question of P2W. Often there is an answer that the item is worthless, for example, because it is cosmetic, thus there is no "win".

Usually I have to counter this by saying that if people buy such items, they do see some worth in them, and if other people try to sell these items, they obviously expect somebody to value them. You either deem the item in question worthless or have a hope to sell it for a fair price that is more than zero, not both at once. (The case when the seller is convinced that the item is worthless, but pushes for unfair exchange, is a different story)

Here it become simply obvious. The in-game items that are sold for real money are being extorted by other players, and even more, it sparks drama as owners do not part with them readily.

I'd wish loftar & jorb re-evaluate how deep they've got in the rabbit hole of microtransactions. Maybe it's not too late to back out of it.

Mashadar wrote:Without an easy way to transfer hats, you no longer get a choice and things just go back to how they were before, meaning you die by default.
There would be other consequences as well. At least, it would worsen the extortionists' position (if this wasn't true, they would've preferred to kill the victim straight). Then it would lower the number of such attacks by excluding the cases where the main drive was to obtain the hat. And then it would contribute to lowering the interest of such people to participate in the game.

I'd suggest you to think that one can't simply "thank" people with predetermined and obligatory thing, for supporting him with money. Either you take money for being you, doing it your way and continuing to, and owe nothing more — or you happen to implicitly or explicitly make a deal to trade something for money.
