Where does player skill matter, aside from knowing the right buttons to press in what order? That's something a flowchart could do.

Drinking correctly, avoiding cliffs, picking up critters, avoiding water, opknocking at good moments, picking up speedbuffs, blocking people, taking away enemies speedbuffs, clipping people on trees, cutting people off, cooperation with others, going for weaker targets &c &c &c it's like 1/20 of the skills that PvPers need to master, but those are the most important ones

Why are you so hostile? I never said anybody owes me or anybody else a damn thing. I literally just asked why wouldn't you be nicer if you want more people to play your game.

Because most of the new players are like that and it has become my answer to topics like this, that I repeat every time. Also a lot of the times people won't be nice because it doesn't benefit them in any way. People who enjoy PvP aren't looking for friends, but for the rush of adrenaline while fighting others & getting the sweet loot they have. Additionally, this game has a lot of players that are just shitty/annoying so you have a pretty fair chance that the guy was an asshole anyway.

But this is what happens in the wild. If you get a chance to normally talk with others & ask for help you probably will get a good answer. People just should not act as if they deserve it handed to them on a silver platter is all.

Ironically, I think it's mostly people with big client advantages who complain about how bad vanilla is >> search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&keywords=drink+keybind

I fully agree that the game is overly complicated and things should be easier for people to get into the game, hence the million threads like this. I fully agree that public access to good clients is a major problem for the health of the game.

That said, I think putting the onus on players to ensure the game is playable for others instead of having fun is big dumb. I think Jorbtar should care a bit less about the joy of discovery, and vanilla client being """pure""" and a little bit more about the fact I could literally 1v200 the weaker 200 players current online without much issue.

Within 5 minutes he was able to explain every important detail: "eat meatpies with pork and cheese, drink wine, buy a good table, and pepper everything." That was literally it.

Yes, before tons of QoL changes that actually make it easier now. How the fuck, even in pre-W14 food rules, do you get faction-competitive quantities of pork, cheese and pepper as a hermit? People in small villages burn out on managing animals, and they're definitely not producing enough pork to get to faction PvP stats. I find it highly unlikely someone could do that alone, and I find it even more unlikely that one could do that on top of having to do everything else solo. Even when you're no-lifing the game, there just aren't enough hours in a day to get to that level of production while managing everything else solo. Cheese and pepper are likewise far too time-intensive for a hermit to produce in significant quantities (especially prior to the pepper production buff which didn't happen until W13).

Why do you think hermits would be able to get enough food etc. as an organized village? The only difference between a "faction" and any other village is that the former knows how to make at least non-retarded choices. This whole thread is about making it less difficult to distinguish good choices from bad choices, by for example having some deterministic system for how spices and ingredients affect the end-product. This would enable anyone to make good choices without tribalistic knowledge, or sifting through thousands of slightly-different recipes in a cookbook. I do not understand what the fuck you are REEEE-ing about here. It definitely has nothing to do with what we're talking about.
