By basing their arguments on the ideals of Ayn Rand they remove all concepts of ethics and morality from the game. Rand espoused "might makes right" - if I can kick your butt that means i am a better person than you. She believed in totalitarianism and supported Hitler. She stated the treatment of the Native Americans was proper and acceptable because "they weren't using the land anyway".
But the proposals for reining in the sick mindset of killing random people just because they are there and "it's fun" are meaningless. Longer scents? Inability to hearth for a day? Will have no effect at all. Most PKs are very strong fighters who, if they cannot hearth will just ride or sail home, killing anyone they encounter along the way. Nidbanes are useless, a strong fighter can easily kill them.
We need some option that, as in real life, will prove an actual deterrent to such people. I can think of nothing the devs would consider, because the PK contingent in the game is so vocal; perhaps steam will see this as an issue.
I've long proposed a separate non-PVP server, people can play either or both, would be interesting to see which attracts more players. Such a version would promote community and interaction in the game, rather than paranoia and isolationism.
