Well, if jorb (and loftar by extension) has made no clear statement against "gimme hat you payed for or die", then Snail is my personal hero, we don't need but we deserve.

Tbh, most people who probably will give their hat, are fresh into to the game enough, to not know "right" way to play or escape such dilemma. They value their time spent more than their value their hats but, they wouldn't know any better. While the root problem is not even Snail and alikes behaviour, but that fresh blood is easly fucked over to quit (Spend cash -> Get immersed -> Lose "cash" -> have even less reason to stay).

And well. Some doing that sell those hats and make small pocket change so, draw your own conclusions.

in all honesty, i think the only thing jorb is responsible for is making players purchasing a hat aware that player may intimidate them for it. some warning on the store page to ensure (new) players know they are fronting a risk with a cosmetic, otherwise no issue

That wouldn't exactly help sales. Players should not be punished in-game for supporting the developers.

honestly i dont get the complaints...

u dont have to give him the hat, just call him a tranny faggot and die like a man

i remember when i first started in w5 there were bandits, and killers, but there was also rangers and warriors who fought for good. tracking scents and hunting baddies

if you want to stop this shit the people need to stands up, sure a hermit cant kill him but they could support a challenger and bring fun to the PVP nerds or somth right ?

is hat or die currently impacting sales ? all im saying is that they should give a heads up. nothing else changes with the hat system other then player awareness. no one is forcing the hat out of them
if ur stuck in a hat or die situation you might as well already be dead

People are forgetting: Hat or Die makes hermit hunting more fun. Hats are actual loot, everything else hermits have is worthless more or less.

So "they would die anyway" ignores that Hat or Die is likely increasing the number of people hunting hermits significantly because it's more fun to do so.
Lucky: haven is so quirky

i am throwing my hat in the ring to call you a retard because you know god damn well that the amount of people beating the shit out of hermits is exactly the same as it virtually always has been. if you genuinely think otherwise you are on some real weird alternate reality mindset, because you remember what it was like in legacy and you remember what it was like being around me virtually any of the time, and you've heard bajillions of anecdotes of people dunking hermits. there is an extreme minority of people that ask for hats in exchange for no bloodshed. just wailing on a scrub is enough of a dopamine hit for a lot of these people. hat or no hat, nothing changes. hunting a billion bears a day and beating the tar out of the first hermit you see on each trip is universal.

In all my time in Legacy I haven't even once encountered groups of players proactively boating around looking for players to gank. You could randomly run into players who would aggro if you came too close, but 'I'm suddenly in combat and at the same time three people on a knarr appear on my screen' is a new thing introduced in Hafen. There's people now who not just beat up all players they happen to come across, but proactively go around hunting players.

Removing the pressure from hat-or-die situations certainly won't eliminate sprucecap killing, but it would be limited to just the 1v1s when you happen to run into the wrong person.

Again, refer to Snail's own admission that the chance of getting hats incentivizes his player-hunting:
