You're not supposed to probe.
That being said , it's still a pain , especially if you're unlucky with the first few tiles.

This new system is pretty retarded, mining a bit of ore in hopes that it would yield something, only to waste whatever was produced on mine supports which could be destroyed after you mine 3 tiles is...discouraging at best.

Imagine thinking you HAVE to make mine supports.

The issue lies in food and hunger, not the supports.

Am i the only one, who find this new system better? In the previous world i found mine supports as last resort options, for high Q nodes or gold and silver. I mean we're talking about pretty much medival mining. It's obvious you shouldn't be able to mine space for entire underground village, just because you've build some supports. Maybe those numbers should be fixed, so it's not so punishing to mine cave-ins, but i think the minesweeper part is what mining is all about.
Even in real world there are ore deposits that have amazing amount of metal, but can't be mined because they're unstable.
I think some people can't just accept the place they tried isn't going to work, and there's no point in wasting metal on it. I think the new system turned mining from a chore into a risk-taking adventure.

Maybe you are intellectually stimulated by mine sweeper but for some of us it's a pretty dull challenge ¦]

The mine sweeper system is fine for supportless mining, and to a degree that always ends up happening. The thing is I think people who enjoy mining enjoy it as a mentally casual activity. Sure it makes bots better at it, but sometimes bots are good at things humans enjoy doing.

Imo the gems, the prospecting and occasionally hitting the jackpot, mining's fine where it was pre-support change.

Completely agree, mining has enough hazards as it is trolls, slimes, giant bugs to top that off with decaying supports
https://strawpoll.com/xh2d3zr2 if you give a fuck about mining vote on this. Make mining great again! Bring back old supports.

same
I mined without supports during last world already to find gem and ore nodes.

I also like the minesweeper mechanic, when tunneling and looking for ore veins. But once I do hit an ore vein, I want to be able to mine it, not waste XP on Mining Song only to find out basically none of it can be mined without cave-ins and supports not doing anything to remedy that.

its not really much of an adventure when literally every tile is a cave in tile and you cant get far.

This is why I've stopped trying to mine cave walls and am trying to build a mine hole instead. Don't wan't to have a different concussion every day anymore.
