The problem is that straw poll as a polling tool is entirely unreliable.

You don't need some super accurate poll to know FOR SURE basically everybody wants fast travel. You just gotta walk into a crowded room of haven players and say "I don't like fast travel", and be socially astute enough to notice all of the disgusted glances and people trying to avoid you for the rest of the night.

Plus, I bet all 3 of the people who don't want fast travel would click on a 10 page thread called "Crossroads - VOTE ON THE POLL TO MAKE HAVEN GREAT AGAIN". It's the people who don't care who wouldn't read, mostly

The problem is that straw poll as a polling tool is entirely unreliable. If you want accurate statistics regarding majority opinion then you have to use a proper methodology and by that I mean in this case, posting the poll to a single thread in C&I and then most likely linking it to all your friends in discord that share the same opinion leads to a fairly large selection bias. It is a targeted and very narrow method of surveying an opinion. The only way to administer a poll properly would be for the devs themselves to propose a selection of choices to be voted on, ensure the poll reaches the majority of the population by announcing it on the forum as well as in-game and provide ample time for players to vote.

Anyone that matters browses the forums. If you don't browse the forums actively, then you're not invested in the game enough.

That's the bare minimum. This bare minimum makes what, 75% of the community irrelevant if not more? In addition to this, spruce caps like Granger and other handicapped individuals like you, should not be taken into consideration when it comes to important discussions about game mechanics. It's really quite simple, for instance, let us say that you have a friend that is blind. You also want to get to a restaurant as quickly as possible. It wouldn't make much sense to task them with guiding you to said location when you can see. In this example, both you and Granger would be the blind man, whereas the non-blind man would be me.

If you think this is a skewed poll in favor of "friends in discord" then perhaps you should go link this to all your friends in discord since it's so easy to skew a poll in this way. But I suppose that requires you to actually have friends in the first place.. Yikes, a startling discovery for sure

A significantly large portion of the player base is not English speaking and thus do not browse this forum or receives information via translator or second-hand. There are alternate forums for other languages and many of them won't ever see a post here unless it is brought to their attention or posted in announcements.

I doubt the distribution of people who want/don't want fast travel would rly be that different between Americans, Russkies, and Polaks.
Also, I don't think the poll was an attempt to create some kind of game development democracy... It's just anecdotal evidence that 90% of the playerbase dislikes the current iteration of fast travel, and when extrapolated for realsies evidence AT LEAST BARE MINIMUM 70% of people who care either way want fast travel.


Dude, I just want to hang out with the nabs at CF again, instead of walking for 2 hours just for there to be no nabs because they had to walk for 2 hours as well.

Personally, I would rather have Charter Stones be "Great" again, okay maybe limit porticos to travel only within the current continent/island. However travel from Charter Stone to Charter Stone world wide. Yes, fast travel sucks for many reasons, but is also the prefered method of travel when you don't have 2 hours to waste.

I voted for improved travel, I dont want to walk 2 hours to CF either. I just was not a player when crossroads were a thing so cant vote for that. If you have the ability to make a charter stone why cant that be free travel to visited charter stones? You still have to go through the effort to visit those places. Same with portico.
