Nah unless the damage is absurdly high it won't act as any kind of real deterrent, people will gladly soak up any amount of SHP damage (As long as they don't K.O.) to ruin a newbies experience. SHP damage will not ever act as a deterrent. LP loss however VERY much would because then they have to sacrifice character progression for it. So they start prioritizing targets that actually positively impact their character progression, and not just attack people who have nothing to offer. I would have the LP loss be very low for K.O.ing so people don't get punished for base defense but i would have it very high for theft.
