Scarring

With regard to wounds, I know that jorbtar have stated their desire to have degree of permanence to HHP damage, but the currently heavy-handed (and in development, certainly) wound system feels to me as though it would be too punishing in the long term. My thought was that perhaps all wounds could ultimately be healed, but any wounds above a certain damage value (10? Unsure) would leave behind a percentage of their damage as a permanent "scarring" wound, either as reduced hp or a direct penalty to constitution.

As well, with the idea that HHP will be permanently reduced over the course of a character's lifespan, the max hp value no longer seems meaningful as after accruing one permanent wound it's just a number that you can never use again. Just a thought.

I don't like this idea. It may be more realistic but games need a certain amount of suspension from reality and a touch of the heroic. A crippled hearthling from one to many combat wounds is hardly fun or heroic.

that's why I ended up dieing, only had 40hhp's left with 7 unique cuts to heal and 1 fell wound. that hp wasn't coming back without gauze and I didn't have any hope of making that soon. even then i'd need 8 gauze to start healing, ended up not having enough hp to fight effectively. I like to think my crippled character succumbed to his previous wounds while in the frenzy of combat.
This game really needs a great sword...

Well, they've already stated that there's to be some permanence to wounds. My idea is more to take the edge off of it so that instead of "I got hit one time so now I have -40 hhp" you would suffer a wound and recover with a minor deficit. Isn't it less fun to take a few hits and never be able to fight again, rather than being able to mitigate at least a portion of your wounds?

Scars would be fun, yes.

Scars for different limbs after bad wounding with permanent damage would add some real fear of permanent damage.
For example: i hurt my arm really bad, all woodcutting will be done slower.
