Bridges

Postby Arcanist » Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:01 am

So I feel we've waited long enough, are bridges possible with the current game?

I never could see why they couldn't just be the same tile type (server side) as shallow water, with a graphic put over top.

With the addition of height however, I think that water shouldn't be a requirement, and we should be able to make a bridge from one cliff to another.

Loftorb want an elegant and formal solution that isn't just a patchwork fix. Patchwork fixes come back and bite them in the ass most of the time.

I'm sure they'll be added right at the same time docks and canals are added, and the heat death of the universe happens

Bridges actually somewhat more likely than canals. We'll see when we have the time.

I know this isn't the topic about it, but I'm actually curious, but what is so particularly hard about adding water terraforming?

That was my guess, given that most games (WURM) fake this with "Water appears at a certain depth" which IMO is just fucking stupid.

Something like if an adjacent tile is lower than the tile's water level, water flows onto that tile, and if dirt level is raised above the water level that tile stops being water.
But it's probably much harder than it sounds.

Yeah, don't do this. In wurm it was silly, if you lived on a mountain (which I did) it was nearly impossible to get water, but if you lived by the sea it was nearly impossible to mine.
