Imagine portable shelters that provide a cozy amount of indoor space on-demand, which provide internal "claimed" space (like a lean-to you can walk around in), and have the ability to be granted innate external claim space through a process I'll elaborate on at the end of the post. When put on the ground in it's compact state, a tent would decay much like a regular container, but when deployed through an option on its leaf-menu, it would be subject to it's own claim and not decay.
I envision several classes of tents with progressively larger internal space and potential claimed areas, scaling up appropriately in terms of building material and portability. I've listed below a reasonable selection:
-Nomad's Shelter: similar in appearance to a yurt, with a modest 3x3 internal space and maximum of 9x9 external claim (centered on the tent, therefore reducing the usable claim tiles to 72, because 9 are occupied by the structure). This tent would be rather bulky, taking up either 4x3 inventory space, a hand (or backpack, I dunno) slot, or one space on a wagon. Materials required to build would be ~6 large hides, a large number of boughs and bone material, and some wood blocks or boards.
-Adventurer's Tent: relying on more refined materials, this 3x5 tent has a larger internal space and potential innate claim than the Nomad's Shelter while being slightly easier to transport. It could be transported via cart, hand slot, 4x2 inventory space, or in the dedicated tent slot of the Adventurer's Pack (thread here: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=44269). The external claim would be 13x10, with the tent situated near the edge of the claim lengthwise, but allowing a one-tile edge behind the tent for a fence to be constructed on the claim perimeter. Building materials would be something on the order of ~30 linen or hemp cloth, ~10 leather, ~6 hardened leather, a few boards, and a few bars of hard metal.
-Yeoman's Tent: this 4x8 tent can only be carried overhead or in a cart/wagon slot, and can be given a 20x10 external claim, with the tent situated along one side of the claim much like the Adventurer's Tent. Material requirements would be roughly double the previous tent, but maybe requiring a larger proportion of leather and hardened leather compared to cloth.
-Pavilion: a lavish 8x12 tent fit for a king, wealthy merchant, or warlord on the go. Can be placed in a cart or wagon or carried overhead at the same speed as a fully-loaded boat. The external claim would be something on the order of 24x30. Materials required would be ~12 silk cloth, a very large number of linen or hemp, lots of hardened leather, quite a few boards, and some hard metal or even steel bars.
The internal claimed space would be included with the tents upon construction, but the external claim would require the later use of a Bond of Blood and Soil from an existing, newly-constructed personal claim. The player would right-click the tent with the Bond, and be given an option on the leaf-menu (same one for setting the tent up or packing it down) to imbue the tent with an external claim, with a corresponding LP cost. When this is done, the Bond becomes part of the tent and is irretrievable, the claim it was originally attached to is destroyed, and the tent now has a preset and fixed-size external claim that is deployed when the tent is fully set up, and endures as long as the tent is intact.
