Should shields have stats?

Postby banok » Fri Oct 30, 2015 5:05 pm

It was irking me before that shield quality doesn't matter but now I want to buy a pretty shield skin I'm worried they will add stats and make my pretty shield redundant.

I don't think shields need a bonus, sword+shield is already imo better than b12. so if they were to add something maybe it should be armour values with agiility penalty.

just something around like 15/15, 400 hp, -5 agility. opinions?

Would make b12 even more useless if you were to give armor to shields.
also you don't want the shield to break from wear damage do you?

I don't really want them to have stats, don't want my item worth money breaking on me :p

Alternatively, we could have a repair system implemented.

or they could just not have stats since their benefit comes from the move(s) that use them

Maybe the quality should just affect the 'effectiveness' of the combat move that uses them.

But that would require a lot of balancing to avoid uber-immortal shields and useless shields (although anything less than q10 should be useless, I won't complain about that)

If you want to give shield quality a reason for existing, tying it into the stat bonus items would make most sense under current mechanics. Maybe something like +str -agi.

But jorb's been talking a lot about reworking equipment bonuses. I'm not sure there's any point tweaking the current system when we're expecting an overhaul whenever the devs figure out what exactly they want to do.
