Rearranging the build order a bit. (Yeomanry and log cabins)

Rearranging the build order a bit. (Yeomanry and log cabins)

Nothing major, but its a pattern I see repeating constantly. Players building log housing before they are able to claim their land, often ending up losing much when their unprotected stuff is broken or even claimed by more prepared players.

Perhaps it might be prudent to make proper housing discoveries dependent on having purchased Yeomanry first? After all, it's a bit silly to build a home before you can stake a claim to the land. (Beyond the temporary bivac or leanto)

I'd agree, but I think that the notion of building a shelter - even if temporary, like a log cabin - comes before the idea of settling down permanently and claiming land to oneself. I, for one, had a temporary camp with a log cabin before I could build a boat to proceed with my journey when the World started. It would've been a pain to have to wait for Yeomanry to be able to do so.

Under legacy mechanics it made sense and could be useful. With current hafen soak mechanics, it's nothing but harmful for a new player to build a cabin before a claim.

Agreed.

A valid point, but since the world started, it has developed, and hearth-fires no longer provide a ad-hoc "locking" solution to log cabin start-up dwellings. Making them little more than the illusion of secure lodgings.

I could definitely see this change in the tech tree as being beneficial to new players. I think we've all seen our fair share of spruce caps complaining about their house being knocked down or griefed.
“We still, alas, cannot forestall it-
This dreadful ailment's heavy toll;
The spleen is what the English call it,
We call it simply, Russian soul.”

An idea to consider: Tedium, a Feature.

seems bad to limit the ability to construct a cabin to people who have yeomanry

How so sabi? What situation would it be beneficial for them to be able to place a cabin where there wouldn't be someone else able to do it for them.

At world starts that's a pretty annoying limitation.

it just seems like an arbitrary restriction in a sandbox game
