Meat as fish bait.

Postby spectacle » Sat Nov 07, 2015 10:29 pm

I find myself throwing away a lot of meat these days because they don't give the right FEPS etc, but I still hunt the animals that produces it since I can generally always use more bones, entrails and intestines. It would be nice to have a use for that meat, so why not let it be used for fishing?

Earlier in the game we had huge piles of entrails that we could use as bait, but nowadays I use all the entrails I have for cooking liver & onions. Putting a huge slab of meat on a fishing hook may seem strange, so there could be a recipe that lets you cut a piece of meat into 2 or 3 pieces of fishbait.

Chum would also be nice. Good way to recycle any undesirable fish types.

I use all my undesirable meat on steak and tubers.

Yeah, that would be nice. I've entertained the thought myself, but debated the exact implementation.

Would a higher quality meat have a stronger smell to be able to attract fish?

While we are at the topic of fish, it is also possible to implement chums? Sprinkling meat into the water may cause a buff to the fishing spot to help fishers but will not stack with having meat bait since both of them are using the same scent aspect.

JOrbtar fantasizes of using meat as fishbait?

Ignoring the fact that I can't see how you would have an unusual euphemism with that, meat has been used as a factor in fishing so far. However it is not just attach meat -> get fish. The fish will draw towards the scent of it so it is not just used as bait but also for attracting them towards the location in the first place (chums as I mentioned).

The other thing that will entice them to bite is appearance. Having the bait as the shape of their favorite prey or having some aspect that resembles it also works; barracudas will instinctively bite towards anything shiny since the same flashes are caused by light reflecting off of the scale of the fish they eat, which has unfortunate results when divers carry wear jewelry when diving and get bit by a barracuda.

Now I am wondering if you can implement trolling as an aspect of fishing....

Just let us use small fish like a roach as bait that has a higher chance of catching a carp or something

why waste potential roast roach wrap like that?

id settle for being able to use string and a sharp tool to cut and tie a steak into two chunks of bait.

I don't have roast roach wrap yet, but I don't really use roaches much since my village isn't that far in yet, plus using a roach was an example, as I meant any 1x1 fish
