Idea for the new "Visitor" system

Postby strpk0 » Mon Nov 16, 2015 12:11 am

Sorry in advance if I'm not supposed to make a new thread for this, or this has already been suggested.
I was thinking, wouldn't it be better if you could only select one or two gates within the same pclaim/vclaim/vicinity to apply the "visitor" buff when someone crosses them?
I think this would still allow the intention of letting outside people enter villages without putting the entirety of it at risk, and yet also help with balancing against plot villages which have otherwise been "buffed" by this new system.

So, as an example you could have a couple of gates leading into areas of the village you wouldn't mind visitors wandering around in (perhaps a trading hub or something similar), while the rest of the village is still vulnerable to raiders without them getting screwed over each time they cross a gate.

Im confused by your post.

but i think your saying making trade area only be buffed by visitor? the no

if you mean there should be a place you can let people enter so they dont get buff so that the can trade. you can set field Cairns to allow anyone to trade (steal)
the Gates are a good system for given the buff, if you want to allow visitors to do anything all you need is field cairns.
Raiders inside villages was to get rid of the spy raiding~ ie someone being invited to your base, and they end up being from an enemy faction and opening the gate and boom your village is screwed.

Huh, no. I was thinking more setting a maximum of one or two gates within the same village/pclaim that can apply the visitor debuff (instead of all gates). You could still just set your outside gate as a "visitor" gate to counter the spying thing.

Awe ok...
Then the problem would be my village. I have 4 (basically 5 now) villages inside my village claim.

other people you would hinder their villages and force em to make ugly villages only using 1 (or w/e #) door you set it at.

This doesn't really have a good scope or scale. It works great if you're a hermitage or small village with only a few gates total but what do you do when you're a larger city that has tons of area and players and gates?

Also, what's the point? It's not like anyone is abusing the visitor debuff to stop raiders from being able to raid. It just means that you don't have to lock your gates at all times, raiders can still bash or ram your walls normally.

I see what you mean. I didn't consider the fact that prior to the update if you wanted to raid a village you would still have to break into the walled-off sections anyways (assuming they were locked). I guess this udpate just gives you the freedom to not have to be OCD about your gates being closed.
Nevermind then, :P

The one theoretical abuse put forward was brickwall gates left open over the entrance of each house making them un-enterable. Due to how the key system works, it wasn't feasible before this update.
