Gunnar's unrealistic spear wishlist

Postby _Gunnar » Thu Nov 19, 2015 8:35 pm

-Make them wieldable in 1h but no sting (or spear moves, see below) when used that way (i.e. throwing only)
-Increase size to 3x2
-Increase damage to be comparable to bows, possibly reduce accuracy slightly (but not aim speed)
-Add a spear only block, Fend, that causes enemy attacks to cost 1 more IP and give you 1IP when they attack. Probably blocks 3 things similar to shield, but no multiplier.

-Allow spears, shields, swords equippable in the backpack slot
-Implement hotkeys in Adventure menus to switch left and right hand slots with backpack slot (needs to be two hotkeys, otherwise my leftie characters will be sad!)

For custom clients (probably): add Spear on minimap :p

I was having a lot of fun throwing spears back and forth in spars, sadly atm the interface and the low damage makes it hard to use effectively.

How about a "Phalanx" block with a spear and shield equipped that defends Striking, Sweeping, and Oppressive, reflecting damage against one of those three attack styles

Basically this:Image, using both the shield and spear to block attacks

More spear moves, and a better spear type would be fun
Perhaps a separate javelin for throwing?

Spears also need their own sweep attack
W3 to W6 - Blockland. Special mentions: New Avalon, Tarn of Hotdog, Red October.
W7 - Elvenia, til we all got lazy.
W8 - Cult of R'lyeh, til the deeps called us back.
W9 - Tartarus, til death/wizards came for the land itself.
W10 - ???, ruined and forgotten.

Maybe throwing spears was a test but not their main purpose. They're mainly a melee weapon.

As CloudJhi said, maybe we could eventually get javelins/pilum and a javelin/pila bag (to be slotted on the backpack slot) so we can actually throw a more useful, damaging (and repeatable) weapon that is as strong as a bow, but have our sword/shield or whatever you use equipped as an advantage.

That just makes it straight up better than a bow though. With my ideas you have the advantage of faster aiming but the disadvantage that it isn't very repeatable, and that the other guy can throw it back. I'm not sure why you're saying it is mainly a melee weapon too; its essentially useless for that too right now :p
Separate throwing spears is an idea but I'm not sure about a javelin bag unless it could only hold 2-3.

Yeah, the idea is that it wouldn't hold many spears - it wouldn't be too repeatable, just... you know.... throw a few of them and rush for melee combat.

As for calling the spear mainly a melee weapon, it's because of the name. Spear is generic (there are several types of spears, javelins are one, for example) but USUALLY when you call it a spear, you're referring to its melee use. That's not a solid argument, for sure - but remember that it is called Boar Spear, not just spear, which means is one of those spears used to encircle boars and thrust at them (melee) in primitive hunting :P

But that's not what matters, my point is: I GUESS that this spear (the one we have in-game right now) is primarily a melee weapon and one focused in throwing (like javelins) will come later. That's what I meant :P
