New World

Postby pedorlee » Sun Dec 13, 2015 12:27 pm

I wrote a thread about historical context of the game here viewtopic.php?f=40&t=45893 because I had this in mind:

World generation:

Biomes are nonsensely mixed around the world. Most of them are just different in stamina drain and maybe in the growth of some trees (no olives around me, but I'm not very sure). The only cool areas are swamps and maybe mountains when you reach higher exp*perc stats.
Why not making it a bit more real?
Image

If biomes are scatered in a more logical way and plants and crops depend on it, specialization starts beeing a thing.
With this what the world gets is a dependance on trading and raiding. People from north shall trade or atack southern villages because they can't have acces to tropical woods or crops, for example.
In northern areas Kiwis cannot survive and pinetrees would die on southern or western areas.
In order to make things easier for caravans or merchants, a system like Ladygoo posted here could be useful. Railstations where called?
Also, and because seas and isles should exist in that world, overseas tradings take form.

Image
-Int bonus
-I'm a bit lost with this people/no idea right now.
Image
Actual haven. Northern dudes need coats and are damn good at it.
They can run faster on the north.
-Extra str
-Strong but slow weapons (bastard swords, longswords)
-Penalties in southern biomes
-Bonus in sieges/sea fight
Image
-Excelent riders (turkish or mongol archers)
-Dex bonus
-Overseas penalties
-Masters of spices/food bonus
Image
-Bad at thick clothes crafting.
-Penalties at northern areas
-Faster boats
-Better horses
-Faster swords but less damage (scimitars ie)
-Agi bonus

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-When the players spawn, in that whisp area, they can add their friends through the hs system and if they do, they can spawn in the same region. The spawning is random, so they can land in any part of the map and their friends will too. Then they can find each other by using the arrows, like now.
-Since the map wont probably be random, Jorb can unleash his skills and creativity to draw di... maps and make everything beautiful and nice.
-Each area can have his own structures:
*Greathalls @ north
*Ziggurats @ south?east?
*Mayan like Piramids@ west, or indian tippis or something like that.
*Asian type of structures @ east. ( Himeji castle ie)

With seas we can also have herrings.

This is just an idea and it needs a lot of work.
Its sunday morning and I'm sure I could build a real DeathStar if that means avoiding studing...lel I'm a lazy bastard

I really like this idea and have been planning a similar suggestion for a little while. I think crops (like those kiwis) don't even have to be completely restricted to some quadrants. As long as they grow faster in one quad then big villages have incentive to trade without crippling the small villages who don't care about endgame quality grind.

One will be superme compared to others and everyone plays on it.. This idea is pointless.
JOrb and loftar will enver be able to 100% balance it

Even if its like that, because balancing its hard as hell, the game would be something really new to all players. Veterans wont be so veteran and their knowledge wont help them much untill some time has passed. In that time people can complain and things can be rebalanced in patches.

Also there could be new exotic curios unable to get without trading or raiding.
I think it can work.

Edit: this community has great brains who can help.

This would probably require hundreds upon hundreds of development hours, whole map generator would have to be rewritten(because no man could draw such a huge map with these little details that would be random), and tons of additional content, balancing and figuring out proper mechanics to implement.

I don't really think having the game based off of a wide variety of areas would be exactly fitting. The game's loosely based on slavic and germanic legend, it's not set in africa.

And don't base all of these stat bonuses off of real-world stereotypes. That's lame as hell.

This is right and sorry if it sounded like this. I wanted to make some differences by adding some variables to the lattitudes. My idea make sense when a guy wield a double sword. That weight needs a strong arm, so i thought in more str to their users.
In northern africa they used scimitars. Those weapons were faster than nordic weapons and their "users" weren't so heavily geared as the nordic ones.
I wasnt beeing a dick there, and sorry if someone has understood that.

EDIT:
I wrote int to the west and nothing else because I havent thinked on that.
I wrote dex to the east because dex is used in this game to craft some foods.

Please don't understand this as a racist thing. I never judge people for their procedence.

Tempted to agree with DDD here. I don't want to hardcode per se how certain areas and whatnot behave, though I agree more localization would be fun.
