Steel fuel cycle is too short

Postby romovs » Mon Dec 21, 2015 10:15 am

Current twelve hours fuel cycle for steel crucibles is too short and doesn't integrate well with real life.
While some things need to have a failure rate to make things interesting, it probably shouldn't be a factor of how often a player can login at specific times especially when it comes to a critical resource (brickwalls). It makes it nearly impossible for some to produce steel and just makes you want to bot it which is in itself even worse.

Perhaps it would be worth considering increasing it to 16 hours or reduce the amount of cycles at the expense of more fuel per cycle?
Scheduling your RL around being online at least every twelve hours during the span of four days is no fun.

Build at least three crucibles and do it over a weekend - refill when you wake, refill after lunch, refill before bed. Start on Friday and you'll have your steel some time on Monday if the server doesn't crash. It will take you longer to collect the bricks for your wall if you plan properly.

Set it for 11 hours.

That can't be an enjoyable mechanic.

The game is full of unenjoyable chores. What's important is it takes longer to piss than refill three smelters. If you only care about a brickwall you only have to do one batch for your gate.

12 hour is just fine.
If you work more than 12 hours a day even on weekends without any ability to have even slightest break, im quite sure HnH is not game for you.

Even one cycle can be hard for some people. Obviously everything is doable but it forces you to schedule your life around the game. Maybe I am completely wrong on this and people do find that fun in general?

Personally I don't have problems making steel; can connect pretty much 24/7. But judging by the amount of requests to make a bot for this or just talking to some casual hermits it at least seems to be an issue.
Anyhow just putting it out there to hear opinions.

I completely agree that the 12 hour cycle is too short. It's very tedious and can be a bottle neck for people for people who can't regularly logon. I've helped several people run it because they simply couldn't do it alone.

I think a 16 hour rotation would be a much more accessible and forgiving time limit. Or we can bring it back down to 8 hours, kek.

Instead of lowering time. Just make it so 100% condition palisade cant be bashed.
This way people that are inactive and their palisadse decays under 75% it can be bashed. But oens that are active are given some more security while theyre pushing it for brickwall.

I agree that it might be a little too short, I was playing in the evening a few hours before I normally go to bed and I fueled the steel. If you do that and then get about 8 hours sleep you are cutting it pretty close.

If I fueled it any earlier yesterday I would have missed the mark by just a bit today so between work or school or shit happens I can see the need for an increase.
