Biome Spreading

Postby Onep » Thu Jan 07, 2016 8:38 am

I'd like to see the spread of grass and other biomes increased by at least 4x or more over the current speed. Right now, it's OBSCENELY AND RIDICULOUSLY SLOW. It's insane. The grass on my front lawn grows faster than this. And, if you aren't willing to increase the speed for god knows why, at least let us cultivate seeds to proliferate the spread different biomes. I filled my plot with trees, and it's barely over 50% filled with forest biome. And this has been at least two weeks of effort. Image

Here's another image that removes biome transitions and trees to better show how awful this is:

This problem is also super annoying if you have any roaming livestock who eat the grass around and leave splotches all over town that last for weeks. It's just incredibly obnoxious. I know I'm being a little OCD about this, but come on. It's awful if you're trying to make something look nice.

Also, judging by the second image, it looks like even less than 50% coverage.

This could be solved by adding a new landscape option called "plowing for biome spreading" (original and intuitive, lel) button. This could allow to easily terraform the biomes around you as you wish.

you know you can plant grass, right

and stomped dirt decays to what is adjacent to it in most cases

Uh, duh? But I don't want just grass. And as far as I know, grass doesn't increase tree growth. And that decay takes weeks if not months, sort of the reason I made this post to begin with.

Trees seem to spread wald in the 9 surrounding tiles quickly but then spreading slows to the normal rate for the tiles farther away.

Would be good if the faster radius was increased maybe 5 tiles radius around the tree?

I'd hardly say trees spread wald "quickly." One wald tile from 4 trees in two days is not quick.
Even then, it's useless unless it happens to appear under one of the planted trees.

At which point in the next time you are ready to plant a tree you place it on that patch. Then you continue the process till its all what you want. I've terraformed several worlds and its never quick or where you want it.

I'm well aware of how to keep spreading it. I think the process is stupid slow, hence why I'd like to see it quickened.

Short of the ability to harvest biome specific grasses, soils, plants... it should not grow quickly. Terraforming is still in its infancy. :D

Thinking about this,
I have to agree, that there needs to be a way to transplant/grow different biomes. While for tree production its a hassle, to cultivate a certain biome for aesthetic design, its near impossible.
