This end of the world thing/event got me thinking, mainly about group content and end game.
Other MMOS have group dungeons, instances, battlegrounds or whatever you want to call them. They are group activities designed for higher level players to complete together.
Other MMOs have events, that players can partake in.
Why can't we have more events like the end of the world scenario like we have now. Just not an end of the world scenario each week. or even any event each week.
We have events that anybody can help with. hermits, villages small and large. raiders and traders.
EXAMPLE
Crazy summoners want to bring trolls and lizards into the world. These enemies will attack walls, destroy crops and kill hearthlings. BUT, people can build stones that disrupt the summoning. People can go into the world and kill the summoners or creatures. People will lower building skills or no access to the higher level materials that the disruption stones give, can craft an item that they must use. Combat players can go into the portals to take the fight into the immeterial realm.
or people can make summoning portals themselves to bring more of these things into the world. They can craft the same staff and use to create terror. They can go into the world and destroy the stones of the villages/people trying to prevent this. They can find a portal and help the creatures make it bigger and larger.
at the end of it all, people have done something other than just farm, grind quality, raid villages. There is something NEW to login for. People get some loot, specific crops unique to the event (blue carrots?) special account wide skills for subbers.
At the very least it breaks the monotamy of late game... login, put on curios, grind quality, ram check etc etc.
PS. I LOVE this idea of the end game alter thing! I wont partake as im happy building a road. but the idea... love it. More of this!
