Critique & Ideas

since this subforums is also meant for critizism not only ideas, then i will give this a shot - the combat is shit, it needs a heavy re-balance and the devs need to improve it
hey, i'm talking not only for myself, but mostly for the whole playerbase, because i'm not the only one thinking its real bad. thanks for reading

There was a wise soviet conscript that was surrounded by the enemy on the battle of Stalingrad. A mortar shot teared his pants apart causing a big hole in his pants right on his right butt cheek. He felt a glorious cold ass breeze of wind on his butt cheek, like it would be sent by stalin himself, he said - hide your butts

it is been said enough for past 6 months and there are already shitloads of posts on ideas how to improve combat but the devs haven't really done anything about that. just expressing my feelings towards the combat because it breaks my heart after i think how good the previous combat was and how it is now. :(

Propose something then. It's Critique & Ideas, not Critique & Whining. Not like I disagree that the combat system is bad, but show some initiative, as you are for sure far more experienced fighter than me.

there is already 78 pages of posts in critique&ideas subforums about combat ideas&etc, and i am sure that jorb and loftar can come up with something good themselves too if they would have liked to change it

You know what i want? Legacy combat system.

I don't know what, but something about that old system i just loved. Maybe the fact that if your 1v1ing someone, atleast your skill and technique actually matter, instead of Hafens combat where you mash a button repeatedly hoping you have more UA and Agility than your target.

If you won't do this, atleast bring back the old combat skills like brawling and swordsmanship instead of this dumb "Combat Discovery" system.
Total misplay.

This is unlikely, jorby likes the system as it is "harder to make combat alts". Even though it's really not working that way now :S

Some suggestions for changes:

Limiting the basic moves one can use is pretty unfun. Finding yourself in a situation where you're entirely useless because the situation you found yourself in isn't what your deck is prepared for, and you just have to run away and spam defences isn't fun.

Deck combat isn't fun. Relying on RNG and card flow for combat adds unnecessary layers of monotony and feels more like a set of restrictions than a set of opportunities. People just take 5-6 moves to avoid it.

Having "unique fighting styles" is kind of fun. I feel like having fighters have 1 unique move on top of the set of "basic maneuvers" could be achieve something like this in whatever system comes about. This one move could provide a set of expression in combat such as defensive play, offensive play, or group utility play. These could be expressive of combat styles such that customizable decks may provide, but not make or break you if the situation isn't what you're prepared for.

I should focus on my enemy and myself. The UI needs to not cover up the screen. Not being able to see what is going on around me because the UI is covering everything around me is TERRIBLE.

Combat needs to consider that people are moving around. It's pretty rare people are all "xd let's just dive into a huge 10v10 clusterfuck pool because i have no sense of self-preservation". Usually one side is running from the other while stacking coins because there's an objective reason to run e.g. reinforcements are coming, an outpost is nearby, they don't want to fight etc.

I don't think combat discoveries are that bad. Should probably remove some of the abuse cases such as putting animals in a cage and just discovering off that one animal over and over.

Might post some more shit if I think of it l8r
