Moving soil suggestion.

Postby Amanda44 » Sun Mar 13, 2016 12:33 pm

I seem to end up doing a lot of terraforming, which I don't particularly mind except for the constant stopping to empty your inventory. The majority of terraforming is done initially when designing your base and levelling, before the ability (and before you have the mats) to make Tsacks. Unless you are adjusting an extremely small area the inventory is simply just not big enough for this kind of action, the problem is made worse when using a shovel, esp a metal one, when the speed fills the inventory so fast you end up with a bit stuck on the end of the cursor which prevents you stopping the digging process easily and results in copious amounts of soil being dropped which you then have to return to and use endless clicks on tiny specks of dirt to pick it all back up again! :x

I'd like to propose a suggestion to make the process flow better and then beg for it, or something like it, to be implemented ... :D

Be able to construct a box like cart that can be attached to the char, pulling it behind you, into which the soil you dig goes. Smaller ofc than the normal cart, akin to the wheelbarrow but with cheaper materials and leaving the hands free for digging - maybe make it solely for use whilst terraforming, a terraforming tool if you like, so as not to negate either the wheelbarrow or the normal cart.

This is the closest I could find to what I mean, instead of a handle though the struts would attach to the waist.

I'd also like to ask that soil stockpiles be increased in size to prevent running out of space to place them!

Pls, pls, pls, pls, pls ... :)

Shift+clicking to pick up the soil makes it way easier, as well as gathering your crops...

Stockpiles could be bigger though, and the thing you proposed can be a function of the existing wheelbarrow...

1. You can Shift + RMB on stockpile while dragging item to place all items (so you can place new stockpile with Shift click and dump everything in it or just dump everything into existing one without additional clicks)
2. If you have too many soil you don't need you can just level it, auto-drop to the ground and then prevent raising of the terrain level (block tiles with paving or just block with soil stockpiles)
3. You can abuse survey overlap bug to move huge number of soil into a specific region by just digging it (you need 2 characters digging simultaneously)

But landsurveying is still far from being ideal.

I didn't know about either of these two ... or with regard to to the first hadn't though about it ... is that just on a single tile though? For example drop soil onto a tile and then pave around it or can you do it on a larger area of tiles to prevent terrain rising?

I'm not sure about abusing a bug, lol, I don't want to make it all flat and the Jorb drops a mountain on it ... :P

You can pave a tile, drop any count if soil onto it and it will not raise level. Or pave 4 tiles and drop soil between them. The rules is simple - tile corner should be blocked (with paving or bulding, for example stockpile) and it will not rise.

Survey bug is known since the beginning of the hafen. I'm pretty sure is was reported million times.

Brilliant! That will help tons in getting rid of all the excess ... thank you. :)

Unless they shortened it after extending it last world (so you could dig with metal shovel till you needed to drink and after that had enough time to pickup the soil): why?

If you dig for 2 full stamina bars and then try to pick up the soil on a character that does not have tsacks, some of it will have already went back into the earth before you have time to pick it all up and store it
