Tanning Vats

Postby Fierce_Deity » Thu Mar 24, 2016 8:08 am

I want to see a unmovable version of the tanning tubs added to the game called a "Tanning Vat". It should be stationary and take up 4 tiles or so. Its inventory should be at least 4x4. It should hold more fluid than a tub(obviously) and be more efficient with fluid as well. Tanning time for it should remain the same however. Building materials for it should prolly be only boards. Opinions?

I would support this, as well as other more advanced versions of simple processing machines, that take more resources to build.
Make it take metal too, just so tubs still have use.

I considered suggesting it take other materials, but since tubs affect leathers quality I thought that it would be best to make another form of making them require the same ingredients/formula.

hmm. so it takes up the same space as 4 tubs holds the same amount of hides as 4 tubs and uses only boards like tubs..... whats the point of this again?

The balance is maybe wrong, but I think he can have a point. Making leather can be painful for the neck from the early game to forever. Why can we not reduce this burden with technology as the time elapses?

i dont mind it but as it stands the vat is just 4 tubs into one. same space taken same capacity. maybe make the inside. 8x8 or something and require metal and several boards AND blocks. hell make it require some steel nuggets. dont wanna make tubs completely useless after all.

Yes, this is certain. The suggestion as written is just better than regular tubs. This is what I mean by balance. There must be some cost for the benefit.

The cost is that its not mobile like a tanning tub. The suggested size was tentative at best and you guys got a bit too hung up on it. My reasoning for leaving the ingredients as boards only was to keep the quality of the Vats similar to that of tanning tubs. Adding other materials that you can grind the quality up faster with isn't that great of an idea. Q100 metal on a Vat? No thanks. Makes no sense for something like this to have metal anyways, unless you are imagining metal bands around the vat.

Very simple saying is that I think there can be a later game tanning solution with more convenience. I do not comment with other aspects as benefit or costing.
