New Lands DLC

Not really a DLC though.

It was said that the map has been shrunk in order to force interactions between players. Whether that only means murder is irrelevant but still needs to be pointed out.
It was also said that special resources were expected to create a constant conflict between factions.

With that in mind, a thought for the future: how about regularly expanding the map on one direction at a time, with one or two new biomes, which would spawn different, rarer, and unique forageables, thus expecting a bit of the new world rush without the annoyance of a full reset?

New special animals such as the mammoth could be restricted to those new biomes as well. And it would be even more interesting if you separated those new lands by water and added a third tier of water tile (stormy water), which could only be crossed by knarrs.

so over time the lands we currently have would have less and less value and the only option for those who want this new resources is to pack up and move with each new expansion? this is absurd. NO.

explain??? unless charter stones become easier to make, people will have no choice but to travel very long distances in order to move or trade goods. and the problem will get worse and worse as new resources and lands are implemented with this idea.

your "not at all" doesnt explain a damn thing....

I don't understand why you're making those assumptions, none of that was in my post.

Transportation wouldn't be any harder than it already is for special resources - what players do currently is place hfs by them all over the world, havest then with alts, then later come to each one of them and collect everything.
Moving to the new area isn't a necessity, you can use charter stones or well-placed roads on the shores, and make temporary outposts like we all do.
There aren't long-distances anymore since you can cross the map border to border in under 3 hours and the new lands would be a fraction of that. If you're worried that it would be too much effort then it's really your problem. If someone can't make the effort of boating for 20 minutes to get unique resources, maybe he doesn't deserve them. Besides, one would expect that only factions and developed groups would want to colonize and fight over these new areas, and this idea was meant as late-game content for them - there are already plenty of good suggestions for late-game hermitting. Tweaks can be made by the devs if there are any problems with it, but I think the general concept is fine.

I can confirm it takes 30 minutes to boat across one algeralith supergrid on zoom 3, at least. Not directly related to the thread though.

You must be crashing into land every 5 seconds. It really doesn't take that long to cross the whole map, and at the moment I personally feel things are pretty cramped.

From experience it takes me roughly 3 hours to traverse 75% of the world.

As to the idea, iunno I'm 50/50 on it. Might spice things up for those established factions. Would like to see things more accessible than being gated behing a knarr though. ;)
