Pardon me, this is true, not exclusively true, though. Plenty of peoples and cultures out there, can't really say there's a rule. It depends largerly on the type of animal, too. It's arguably easier to live a nomadic life herding horses, for example. I challenge any nomad tribe to have hundreds of thousands of cattle heads as sedentarism allowed to, however.
It also depends largely on the amount of people. Haven has no real world population (of course

that would be insane) And we barely have herding mechanics (besides the cheap "shoo"). It would be easier if a couple of people could guide a whole herd on horse like it would happen in RL.
What I meant to say is that Haven's mechanics for animals are those of sedentary herding: locked up animals, individual caring, few people taking care of large strips of land.
It's built more around the idea of "modern", confined herds than actual nomadic/regional pastures. Like... In RL a shepherd can take a group of sheep to feed on a nearby hill and come back. Even if there were no enemies/raiders/whatever, try that in Haven. You'll lose all of them because there's no herd logic or mechanic, they just randomly wander and there's no way to collectively control a herd, which is essential to nomadic herding.
Haven's herding mechanics are exclusively meant for confinement, that's what I intended to say
