A skybox.

Nothing complicated, just something that appears besides the terrifying black void devouring your soul as you gaze into it would be lovely. Can work on making it change depending on time of day or weather conditions later.

Yes please.

Preferably in a way that allows clicking gobjs (currently you can only click them when behind them is ground, dosn't work if there is void).

Would agree, but only if you can turn it off.

Some of the threads use some amazing backgrounds to fill up their angled screenshots.
I would think a completely black background is easier to Photoshop over.
So making it optional for that purpose would be nice.

Clearly you don't live in a mountainous region.

I agree that it should be toggleable if it ever happens... I don't see it happening, though.

For it to be necessary (considering that Jorb and Loftar dev for the default client, which has an ortogonal fixed camera) they should need to properly allow the "bad cam" as official.
But that's complicated. There's a reason they are not doing it: until rendering distances are way (way) bigger, the non-default camera (and hence the addition of skyboxes) would be incredibly ugly. I mean... ugly as in "extremely unprofessional for a commercial game" :(

Before we see larger terrain rendering distance, with landscape on the horizon and trees not popping up 10 meters ahead of us, I doubt we'll ever see the free camera and skyboxes.

What if we hide the render distance limit with fog?

That could work but at least untextured landscape should be rendered. Even with fog, it wouldn't justify why we can see a clear sky where it would have a mountain, for example. Unless the fog is literally a tall wall covering all the horizon but the sky directly above. This is even more ugly, though :P

I don't think it would be too hard for a simple. untextured (or low res) version of the landscape to be rendered for horizons. Could even have distant imposter trees and such. We even know the data actually already arrives at the client (just look at how much map info we get from areas we're still not seeing). It's just not implemented, probably because with the default camera there's no need to render more than the game already does.
