I have been in some situation like this:
1. Find a grand patch of land.
2. Aim to make her mine.
3. Installation of village idol professes my love.
4. Checking the detail of my idol.
5. The wood is putrid and sickly green.
6. The devious willow has slipped inside.
7. Willow detail is not matching well.
8. My idol is sad from bad looks.
9. Village morale dives.
10. No hope to rebuilding the grand idol.
I think that I should be able to change the looks of the idol (and every other item with vary material) by paying the cost of the item, in full, over again. The new payment would redefine the new looking. I think people like to have things uniform, but to delay construction until all of the materials is gathered has a too great cost. Also not all items can be destroyed and rebuilt, like my idol. This way people can be building some ugly but functioning items in early game, and go back to fix late once material is not scarce. Especially if you are to making some palisade materials matter, I think this is very important.
