Confusing words

Postby ven » Sat Apr 09, 2016 3:41 pm

Survival in this game is already too dependent of knowing arcane information and inner circle exploits, please stop using confusing words when implementing new features. Explaining game mechanics to new players has been pretty confusing as some concepts are only evident if you've read the forum for hours. A few suggestions:

claim shield -> claim integrity
animals have 3 lives -> animals have 3 life points
you need to repair your catapult in order to fire it again -> you need to rearm your catapult in order to fire it again

You get the idea.

I think these changing you suggest are as confusing or more confusing than the original. I also do not think any things you suggest are confusing now either.

Not everything being handed to you is a trade mark of rogue like - lite and survival games.
Moot point is moot really.

1: Claim shield is what protects your claim. Hence shield.
2: Animals have 3 lives. If they had 3 "life points", people would ask "Is there a way for more than one life point to be taken?"
3: You need to use the "repair" function to fire the catapult again. This is what every other item in the game says when it needs to be repaired.

The only reason why the game is confusing is because of the legacy vs. hafen articles on the wiki. Even still, it doesn't take 2 hours looking through the forums, a 20 second google search will find a thread explaining it. If you really want to help make the game less confusing, help work on the wiki. It's pretty easy to just change/edit an article you see while doing your daily chores.

It was only a friendly suggestion based on what I see while teaching new players, who don't use the forum and who often can't understand English well. These are people who ask "but where do I have to hang my claim shield", for example.

It's a basic principle of UX that two concepts never be referred to by the same word, and that's the problem I pointed out.

The games needs a pedia of sorts to explain concepts. It should also be in game not player made.
