I may be out of context, but in case I am not, I can not agree with that statement, because introducing of the food spoilage would open the possibility for all kinds of food preservation industry.

In other words, there can be two different situations with food spoilage mechanics: the one when food WILL be spoiled if not eaten in time, the other when food MAY be spoiled without sufficient technology. The most appealing case for me (as I feel, so no reasonable argumentation here) is the case when the food spoils by default, but can be preserved for indefinite amount of time with proper storing.
