Intelligent Pets

Postby Acefirebird » Thu Apr 21, 2016 7:59 pm

It's a long shot, but I feel like this game would really be improved if you could somehow get some sort of animal that required training but in the end could be your personal train companion. The obvious thought for this would be something like a dog who you could train to do tricks and stuff. Maybe make mammoths highly trainable so factions can build armies of them and crush entire portions of the map within a day. I feel like this would make the game more fun. I realize there are already cats but I don't think they do much.
Please jorb do this idea. I want to take over all of Hafen but I cant do it without this game mechanic. Please finish implementing this by Thursday of next week so I can get started.
Thank you.
Spooky.

I think this is a horrible and low effort idea.

The only way that I could see companions working would be if they were to 'snap' into place behind you if they go out of render of you, and if they have no collision box of their own

In combat they could likely be interesting but op in PvP and derpy in pve (for example, if the pet catches agro of the mammoth it could be killed before you can react as it would likely would have shit for defenses or it would not put up the right defenses)

Some potential pets which could be useful however could be gatherers

For example, a small bird or flock of birds that will wander around a specified area (the size of a beehive radius) and scavange based on the biome type. Some potential scavenged items being seeds of random types, small foraged curios and perhaps squirrels and other critters

Idk if things like that fit with the style of the game, but functionality aside it would be neat to have roaming animals around the base to add more life to them
