Villages or empires?

Postby Elchupac » Fri May 06, 2016 7:41 am

I see that some factions are Vclaiming and bannering up entire mountains. I found two such villages that spawn across multiple maps and have claimed as many resourse nodes as they can. Is this as intended? I should soon worry that as a hermit may not set foot on a mountain to hunt a mamooth or find an edelweiss ever again, without criminal acts?

any sufficiently dedicated and supplied group of players will be able to claim large swaths of land the way vlcaims and pclaims are set up just make it easier hermits will always be at a disadvantage to organized villages its what you agreed to when you decided to play as a hermit

Not only that, but depending on the faction they might hunt you down and kill you if you do.

You know, when people banner that much, you can drop a wrecking ball on their banner. If you start taking down their claim and they have no clue where it's coming from, they'll be a lot more hesitant to claim "whole mountains."

I don't get it, is hermit just another word for "I want to be completely helpless please tailor the game for my lack of interest in interacting with anyone else in this world?"

And if you're worried about being tracked down, go make a little 10x10 palisade and claim it, make a vandal alt and hide him in there. Boom, they'll never track you to your home.

There are a ton of easy ways to deal with this, you guys are whining about nothing. There are tons of mechanics in the game to deal with this, you simply would rather cry about it on the forums.

I don't see whining, I see legitimate concern of a hermit realising he is weaker solo than being a part of a group.

Why you "strong factions" are always so defensive, do you live in constant fear of game "being tailored to suit" somebody else?

Saying that big factions act like jerks (because they can) is not whining, it's simply stating the fact (and in this case, in a form of a question, too). Saying that one can counter-jerk big factions with existing mechanics and demeaning OP for some out-of-thin-air conclusions kinda is =)

Nonetheless, this post shouldn't be in C&I, because asking if a game mechanic (specifically, large factions being able to have more convenience, safety and overall being more prosperous than hermits) is intended is neither a critique nor an idea.

As it stands it is part of game mechanics.
Working as intended.

Strength in numbers. Why should 1 person be able to compete with 10?

Also, I explicitly gave examples of ways to deal with it. I didn't pull it out of thin air.
Stating that big factions act like jerks; however, is an opinion.

Dis has their fancy trade hub that they let pretty much anyone use. Those jerks!
And honestly, despite all my shitposting, I've gone out of my way to help a myriad of hermits and other players. Also, we've even attacked other big jerk-factions to help halpless hermits.

I doubt people want to post about every time they give a hermit crops, or free tools. That'd just come off as a self-congratulatory circle jerk. So instead, you mostly see the posts about raids and murders.

Who says he should?

See, noone implied a hermis should be "stronger" than a faction, not even that a hermit should be equal, even. Yet you came and whined about bad hermits whining and pushing developers to change in-game (and logical) rules.

Not everyone here is trying to take your precious "strength in numbers" away, chill out =)

EDIT (after you've added quite a bit to your post): the "thin air" stuff was about people in this particular thread supposedly whining about stuff and not just discussing an existing mechanic and if it's intended or not. That's all. The ways to oppose land hogging you've mentioned are legit and working, but not related to the topic directly.
