Subtoken Tributes

Postby Silicon_E » Wed Jul 20, 2016 12:04 am

Lately there have been accusations of villages demanding Subscriber Tokens as tribute. Regardless of whether these claims are accurate or not, this is a significant enough prospect to warrant ruling purchasable tributes illegal. Not only would this behavior potentially affect the real lives of players, most of which are not involved in the game enough to buy merchandise (especially as tribute); It also borders on extortion, which is a crime. As it both pits play styles against each other and inflicts harm beyond the bounds of the game, there is no reason for there to be any method allowed for demanding items that must be purchased out-of-game.

Is this joke or serious?

I imagine its pretty serious. sub-token extortion is a real issue although i would not take such extreme measures against it as he is describing for instance i doubt it would be considered a crime simply because no physical harm will come if they ignore the extorters.

This is no question. Such thing is not remotely illegal.

While technically it is not criminal extortion as the victim's money is only recieved by the raider in the form of video game items, the motive and consequences are the same.

Any ingame good can be equated to an equivalent number of sub-tokens. Don't play the game if you can't take the heat.

This is absurd. With the same success raider can ask for paypal instead of sub token.
Speaking about the law: player doesn't own anything in this game. All you accounts, characters, villages belongs to Seatribe. Since you are not own anything in this game i'm not sure there is any connection with extortion.

First of all ysh yes i am dead serious this is a really bad problem in the game however i feel like this should be resolved by players not devs.

And ysh where i come from there would be question of this being illegal as long as you made the arguement that sub-token extortion directly affected you in your daily life, however i doubt this arguement would work in court because like i said there is no real life issues caused if you deny the raiders but i am just saying people have been sued for less than this.

Let me say this: you are choosing to play this game. Nobody forces you to play game. In this game you choose to play, it is legal in game rules for player to threaten other player. There is nothing in game that stops the player to do this. There is no game master policy that stops the player to do this. If you do not comply to demand backed by this threat, only punishment you are facing is getting attacked in game. Which is legal by the game which you can leave at any time. If you can not handle people threaten you, do not play a game where it is allowed to extort player. This is not hard for understanding.

Imagine this scenario: I am playing game of chess against friend. In middle of game, he has chance to take my queen. He tells me that I must give him $5. If I do not give this money he say he will take my queen. What should I do here?
A: Continue playing chess.
B: Call police and sue him for extorting me in game.
