Paid Protection - Why not Mafia and not God?

Postby GenghisKhan44 » Mon Aug 08, 2016 10:00 pm

I don't know if it was because he was a bit overzealous in fighting crime, or if it is true. But is what Bear Gryllz said true: Do people really pay villages IRL or with subtokens for protection?

If so, I put forward the suggestion that perhaps the devs might prefer to make that money themselves. Would jorbtar be interested in selling month by month protection from raiding to villages? Or at least banning people and villages who extort IRL money or things worth real money? It seems a shame any of the money made on this game should not go to you two.

They do get the money spent on sub tokens. And you do realize just how broken selling divine protection would be, don't you?

No more broken than the other villages selling protection. The only things it would change is that jorbtar would get the money, and no one could break a promise they paid money to get.

Their protection being fallible is the fun of it.

How about the matter that a village doesn't actually *need* to followup on protecting another, if they wished to lie or steal? Or how about the fact that another village protecting you simply doesn't mean your village is protected at all? Your enemy might be stronger than the people protecting you, or might attack when they can't assist you.

Don't pretend like someone else's word is of any real value, you trade and pay for what you think they are worth- nothing has inherent value.

That's exactly why it's fun.

Strong are strong. They give, they take. Keeping promises given to weak is just their good will. If you are not strong - get strong or accept the consequences of being weak

This would be actually sensible if the demand for real money is proven and the threat is made against player's property. Alas, you have no property in-game and your subtoken, once bought, represents nothing more than your ability to extend an account's subscribed status for one month.

So, if I joined Dis and offered you a month's protection from us for $10 USD, you would pay?
