An App to compile all Ideas and Critiques

Postby bojackson » Fri Aug 12, 2016 2:10 pm

Its hard to find various ideas in the C & I forum, it seems unorganized I mean. Would be awesome to have everything in one place on an app that could be searched through and organized. Also we have ideas and opinions on random topics (such as siege mechanics) scattered all over the damn place in random update threads ect.

An app that would organize by genre/category, ideas brought up, and ideas from the devs that everyone could discuss. For example "world creation" and it would include all topics/posts concerning world creation (world size, river layouts, things to implement).

I imagine something like a forum but with easier organization filters to quickly be able to access, to discuss/post on a topic. Like a list of category's on the home page to click on which would take you to a specific post/topic.

With an app like this we could add in features like voting or thumbs up and thumbs down to tally up votes. Note: Not that game mechanics would have to be decided by the votes or anything, just to have the input and see the amount of people agreeing/disagreeing. Basically it would be for information gathering and feedback is all.

Should improve --

1. We would see more people discussing and talking about ideas, and future development.

2. Less dupe posts (same idea over and over).

3. Organization is nice for the mind, devs and players would have less of a headache :)

4. Might help squash the notions that just a few big factions are motivating the devs ect, which I personally think is bs, cus if you know J & L for long enough you'll know they don't take no bs from anyone! If they want things a certain way they do eet!

But Bojackson! Who will make this awesome app?

Everyone seems to be a "coder" 8-) now adays, if someone could volunteer it would be awesome. I'm sure J & L have plenty to do as is, and wouldn't be interested in taking the time to do it, I dunno. What you guys think? Too much? Make ramovs do it? ¦]

They will never do it. I highly doubt they are able to develop anything that looks even nearly tolerable. And even if they would, they dont have time or interest. Things like that is not needed with such a small scale as hnh. Forums already have search function and the app would not be any better. probably.

Which is often ignored, sadly.

As long as Joe Average can enter new issues into a tracker it won't change anything, even forcing to search if an issue already exists fails on a regular basis (just look at any public bugtracker for <whatever> and search for issues marked as duplicate).

This app is called JIRA
Or a github issues system but I'm not familiar with it

It has rich search & filter abilities (by module like GUI, QoL, combat, content) (by type: bug, improvement) (by secerity: minor, major, critical)(by status: open, in progress, done, duplicate, won't do, not a bug. "will do later" status may be added too)

It also has comments, votes (how many people want that), watches (to be notified by mail about status updates)

It has sub-tasks or sub-issues.

It has trial and I think it's possible to find crack/keygen version

It has all kinds of rights and pribileges management: who can do what.

It has links and merges for duplicate issues

So IMO - it's perfect for such case

I could make a web app for this as practice. I'd need a very specific outline first.

One challenge I see is updating this "C&I app" with all the current info/suggestions in the current forum. Would we have to pick through all the posts/suggestions and compile them? Or could a bot maybe do that via search function? Hmm

I really think it could streamline the overall effectiveness of suggestions and development as a whole. I get the sense that a lot of good ideas get buried due to really long threads or missed/forgotten because of people arguing or whatever. Organization goes a long way sometimes, especially with how complex the game is getting now.

How about being simple and adding a posting rule to C&I?
Add a hashtag under your posts, showing the content of it.
+ we need a list of acceptable tags, so the devs would know how to search for them. Yeah, it'll be a bit hard to lurk around the old ideas. However, a lot of them have already been noted for keywords. Whereas implementing the new thing would help the devs not only to look at the op-posts, but look at the posts inside of a topic (instead of reading all of them)

#c&ipostsorg

Tag list:
#farming
#pvp
#food
#curio
#qol
#res
#localres
#botting
#visitorbuff
#combat
#village
#statcap
#claim
#siege
#metal
#mining
#endgame
#forage
#tokens
#economy
#politics
#animation
#mapgen
#death
#cosmetics

and etc. etc.

How about everyone does at least a basic search before making a new topic, picks a descriptive title, presents a solid line of reason, skip the list of thing to ignore(aka. read the stickies), doesn't open the criticism with 'the devs are idiots' and keeps the trolling and penis size comparison to the Moot?

Jorb reads every thread in here so I can only suggest to give him content to digest that doesn't lead to repeated facepalming or the feeling that his user base solely consists of morons, bullies, haters and trolls. He catalogues the information he finds in a way that is compatible with his way of thinking, one can't force feed a different one and hope it for it to work...

Add a hashtag under your posts, showing the content of it.

That has its own complications because of wording and spelling. #Weather #Wethar #Rain #Snow #Snowing #Storms would all pertain to the exact same thing but be listed as their own tags rather than sorted together. You could also end up with multiple tags for the same thing, like we see on sites like Twitter. #Prince #PrinceDeath #RememberingPrince #RIPPrince etc. and many others were trending that day. All of the posts were intended for the exact same thing but organization and categorization are difficult.
